@dan54 yeah NZ Rugby could be in huge trouble. The flow of the game and the way it’s been officiated is putting a lot of people off.

I’ve got plenty of friends that used to watch footy religiously but now most of them don’t even bother.

Compare rugby now to back in the 2000s and it’s actually pretty sad viewing.

There are more handling errors in SRA now than in European Cup or 6 Nations Rugby. The skill levels in NZ Rugby have dropped off significantly in recent times. Worrying.

Wouldn't we always have more handling errors? If you try to spread the ball, you will have more handling errors. People love it when a bit of skill comes off but those things are never going to come off 100% of the time. You can't say that you want tries from crazy skill but no errors. We can make more errors by being more conservative.

Prop Karl Tu’inukuafe took a bang to his knee, but MacDonald was optimistic he and crocked skipper Patrick Tuipulotu (sore shoulder) would be right after bye week.

@african-monkey Blues have been dumb as shit the last three weeks.

My Eden Park stalwart mate thinks they should raise the IQ entrance bar to 80.

Good to get a win after a gash 1st half. Not a great performance though. Scrum improved when Goodhue came on.

    And Nepo!

We looked a lot better when Ruru came in. Nock was slow to the ruck and kicked poorly.

Much more urgency when he came on. Started running from the base too.

Coincided with kicking the pill long when in our own 22. Panadol must have written that on the back of the oranges.

@nzzp it was the correct decision, both YCs were on the money ,in fact Pickerall only penalised each team 9 times ..the scrum penalty against the Blues on their own feed was correct,,even though you have the dominant scrum ,you can’t screw it or collapse it

If it’s the one I think Mafilio lost the shoulder and screwed inwards leaving Hodgeman nothing against which to push.

Well, that wasn't the win we wanted, but it was the win we needed.

I'm going against the grain a bit as I think we played well our first three games, and poorly the last two. Against the crusaders we went ok, asked a lot of questions and had a few brain farts. No shame though, they are a very very well drilled side.

The last two weeks, though have been stupid stupid play. One minute of magic from the chiefs aside, we're playing badly and still being in a position to win games. I'll take that as evidence of a step forward, despite the difficult to watch games.

Defence last night was good, very physical and quite relentless. That said, the ongoing brain farts were super frustrating. If the canes had tjp and Beauden, they have a good shot at winning. They didn't, and we shut down the forwards, Ngani and JB. can't ask for much more.

So, ugly but we'll take it thanks. Dalton a beast, forwards excellent generally and the bacjs were ok. Rieko continues to develop. TJ solid and glue like. Roll on the bye

@kirwan actually Nock was really good. Fast to ruck, crisp passes hitting the runners. Start of the second half put up two poor kicks and got subbed. Ruru came on and then gave away 3 points straight away but played pretty well. No doubt he is a more aggressive runner but for me Nock starts. A lot less errors, and better pass. The team runs a lot better when he is the link man. As TR says his game has really developed.

After the Clan's surprise win the Canes had some real heat on to get a win last night or cement their bottom place.
Just over the halfway mark and they have their backs against the wall now. If they can't beat the Saders then the best they can really hope for now is third.

On the flip side I reckon Blues have the other final spot sewn up. Clan, Chiefs and Canes will nullify each other sharing points around so that one more win for the Blues settles it. Even a handful of BPs could be enough.

Love how the Canes selections came back to bite them, what’s the saying don’t change a winning formula, Blackwell once again showing how rubbish he is imagine running out of the line and missing the tackle!!. I think it’s time to drop the Savea experiment and give Visignia or Patafelo a game and see how they go you might aswell our seasons over.

I have to admit mikey, I wondered a bit about the selections, though I tend to think well I not at trainings etc, so perhaps I don't know why the decisions are made. But still some didn't seem to come off.

@mikey07 no doubt they will somehow blame the loss on Walker-Leawere when he showed exactly what we were missing in the first half when he came on. He should be starting every week from now on.

Savea needs to move to seven and drop the number 8 experiment, that’s half the problem - we lose too much size with him, Kirifi, Prinsep and Blackwell in the pack. I would prefer a back row of Prinsep, Savea and Flanders.

Anyway, we might aswell start looking to Super Rugby Australia, our chances of getting a finals berth almost seem impossible now but atleast we should start giving the likes of Ruben Love, Devan Flanders & PUJ starts. I’d also like to see Danny Toala come into the 23, no point starting Laumape because it sounds like he’s out the door.

Also does anyone know where Kane Le’aupepe is? We could really do with his 2.01m, 120kg frame.

In all honesty I don’t think the Hurricanes selection was based on the week’s training.

Pouri Rakete-Stones played off the bench for the Canes the previous weekend - his club Pirates were told on Tuesday that he was available for them on the Friday club opener. Same with Danny Toala at his club Hastings RS.
