@kiwimurph OK. He wasn't listed in the unavailable for selection list with the team announcement.
takes too long to type

@bovidae Glad to see Finau get an opportunity though. I was shocked when he missed the full squad. His height in the line outs and mobility as a ball carrier are things the Chiefs need more of in their pack.
The long injury list after the bye is hugely disappointing but seems standard fare for the Chiefs each start of season. -
@arhs I rate Finau too. As he played for the Blues Dev last year I thought they might have wanted him again.
We won't really know what McMillan's top 23 is until everyone is fit and available. Moli, Ross, Trask, Boshier, and maybe Sowakula and Tupaea in there.

Chiefs $1.61
Highlanders $2.20Would have thought that the odds would be a bit closer.
As the name might imply, Highlanders fans are probably pretty tight with their cash, gotta get them to put money down somehow.

Unavailable for selection:
Atu Moli (hips), Aidan Ross (knee), Laghlan McWhannell (knee), Lachlan Boshier (foot), Pita Gus Sowakula (knee), Kaleb Trask (knee), Quinn Tupaea (hamstring), Chase Tiatia (concussion)So many injuries I have no clue how close we are to our best team.

Some comments about Finau:
“If there was one guy who has impressed me the most in pre-season, even before the team got named, I would have said Samipeni,” Cane said.
McMillan added: “He’s a big guy, he’s explosive, and his ability to carry and get gain line has been really impressive. Defensively, he’s got a lot of hurting in his intentions.”

I’m really pleased to see him there, he jumped out at Mitre 10 level so I hope he can step up and perform as he meets the needs of a tough six and line out option.
My biggest concern is that both of our locks are also really lock/sixes too, so we should be mobile but are also a bit undersized. I hope the set piece stands up...

I first saw Finau playing for St Peters at 1st XV level. The thing is he played mostly at lock at school and for the NZ U20s but is better suited to 6 when there are 2 m locks available.

It will be interesting. Vaa'i is the same height as Tuipulotu so not small. Brown might play 6 when he is subbed on, so the lineout wouldn't suffer.

Remove the sponsorship and the Clan's kit looks like a school uniform.

Sam Superman Cane with a turnover penalty in the first 30secs. Best player in NZ.

Penalty fest and we are only 15 minutes in
