Just watched the replay, won't be the last time today, and BB's try was an awesome thing to behold. The way he chased, didn't panic and try to gather the ball too early but rather controlled it with the little kick on then gathered and scored. All class!!

Congrats New Zealand. Didn't get a chance to see the game unfortunately but the result was unsurprising.

This is a great great team.

Enjoy the day ferners. A worthy victory. -

Has any other sin binning had this much impact on a game? I think Oz were dead and buried until Smith was yellowed. We were crushing them in the lineout, killing them in the scrums, and had been accumulating points. I think Smith stays on the field and it's a comfortable win. You have to give credit to the Wallabies, they took their opportunities well.

If it was a penalty only, most likely we still score from the maul. After that it's conjecture as Smith could have made another error - but you could reasonably say the try TK scored was a reflection of Smith's absence.

As for cards affecting a RWC game, you could argue the red on Sam Warburton in the 2011 SF changed an entire RWC final. -

Best part was the grin before he regathered the ball. He knew he was in and what it meant. -

Most importantly, for the first time in a long time, the team is acknowledging the fans. Cheika has really changed the thinking on these guys to realise what a privileged position all that hard work gets you, and that getting there is only the start.

To get those sorts of cultural changes in at the top level, inside 12 months, and top off a season in which we beat every team we faced, is nothing short of remarkable.

The lessons from the ABs post-2007 ("good men make good ABs") could not be more clear, particularly when you realise that our RWC wins in 91 and 99 were built on guys who grew up playing for the love of the game, not the money. Hopefully that filters into the other layers of both the playing and administration groups, and after Cheika's relative success over the train wreck we were heading for under McKenzie, the ARU needs to start barring up for the challenge.

Wallabies coach Michael Cheika says he never lost belief in his team through their determined World Cup final performance.

The Wallabies had cut the margin to just four points midway through the second half before a Dan Carter drop goal and a scrum penalty minutes later put the margin beyond a single score.

“I felt that 40 minutes was enough time. Even after they scored ( in the second half), I felt 30 minutes, 35 minutes was enough time to claw our way back into the contest and change the momentum of the game,†he said.

“Which we did at 21-17, with I don’t even know how long it was to go.

“And then even when it got seven points behind, you get a try there, you can take the game into extra time, you’ve still got time to, so we were right back in the hunt in the second half.

Cheika said his side’s character, much-lauded through this tournament, showed through in the way they responded to the challenge.

“I thought we could have easily gone home then, we could have been happy, everyone had a good campaign and we could‘ve easily said, ‘okay we’re sweet,’,†he said.

“That they didn’t want to do that (give up) and they wanted to stay in the battle until the end (was pleasing), which I thought we did.

“There’s not much more I could’ve asked them to do and we came pretty close tonight.

“We swung the momentum back our way, even though the first half didn’t go our way and bounce of the ball here or there, a call here or there could’ve been a bit closer.â€

Cheika reiterated his pride in his side for its improvement each week, on and off the field, since he came on board last year.

“I’ve been really pleased with the way we’ve handled things,†he said.

“I think we’ve been really honest about the way we’ve done things both on and off the field.

“We’ve really enjoyed it and tried to improve over the whole tournament so we can improve our rugby as a whole.

“It came pretty quick for us as a group but we tried to make the best of it where we (could).â€

Cheika said the Wallabies’ focus on improvement would not waver after the World Cup final.

“You just stay at it and keep trying to improve and keep testing yourself again,†he said.

“We’re lucky that we get to play them regularly in the Rugby Championship, so we can keep trying to improve.

“You’ve got to mark yourself against the best.

“They’ve been number one for a while. I think we’ve made good ground over the last 12 months in that area.

“We’ve got to keep growing.â€

Both Cheika and captain Stephen Moore acknowledged the significance of the support from Australian fans in London and back in Australia, thanking the public for their support of the campaign.

Just watched replay, all AB tries were real crackers. NMS, Nonu and BB brilliant. Everyone contributed very well.

She, and her male counterpart who did some of the other games, they can both jump in a rocket fired into the fucking sun. Fucking hide of them, even asking Robshaw and the Poms about their exit in the group stages. I'm all for laughing at Poms but the manner in which they asked the question was plain rude.

Get. Fucked.
-

I was worried BB might get carded for punching the ball after his try

Well played, ABs, too good. As an Australian with a New Zealand grandmother part of me's pleased about the result, possibly my left leg... Pre-match I was absolutely stoked it was an ANZAC final, post-match I think both us can be proud of the quality and style of game we put on. Let's hope the iRB/WR listen to us SH hicks when the way rugby's played comes up for discussion.

Once again, congratulations ABs. -

Felt like we were on top from start to finish. It changed when a (correct) yellow card was given to B Smith. However, the match would have been well gone by that point if Kepu received one of his deserved 3 yellow cards and Pocock received his deserved red card. But whatever, 17 points ends up about right. Irrelevant really, whether it's 1 or 100.
-
