I mentioned that just before the commentator. A similar thing happened against SA and France.

Just goes to show the absolute control we had in the knockout stages -

Absolute confirmation and proof that territory trumps possession every. day. of. the. week.

Argentina seemed to forget this in their semi and the 3rd/4th playoff match.
-

Without Ben Smith, the Wallabies may not have scored any points (Dropped ball leading to first Oz penalty as well as the two tries while he was in the bin.)

Sliding doors and all that... but he was the best player for the Wallabies at ticking the scoreboard over :)
-

He certainly didn't have a vintage match - kick out on the full, knock on on his own line, yellow card etc.

Read also still seemed to have tits in the place of his hands, but made up for it with his defence and lineouts.

Everyone else in the All Blacks played very well I thought.
-

You're obviously annoyed about Kepu staying on, right? You've brought it up a number of times.

So, given you're pissed about that, you can surely see why Aussies will be pissed about the decisions that went against them. But If you can't, fine. I won't try to convince you any further as I'm not really that bothered.

Of course I can see why Aussies would be pissed off, but that doesn't mean that we got the rub of the green as you contended, and whether or not Aussies were pissed off wasn't what we were discussing.

I bring Kepu up because that's a case of Aus getting a really big rub of the green. I don't care that he wasn't binned, I'd rather games were 15 on 15, but as I said Kepu staying on is rub of the green.
-

Still very good. Just not his normal awesome.

I'm pretty sure that's wrong, because the first person to be shown the Yellow in a World Cup was, believe it or not...

John Eales.

This was in 1999, before you went off the field for 10 minutes when it was given. Got done for punching a Frenchie.
-

Nobody's perfect .....
-
Rewatching the final, the last 5 minutes of the half, from the kick restart to NMSs try and the sideline conversion were beautiful. The 60m forward march off the kickoff reminded me of the only highlight 10 minutes in the Sydney test, and the backline scoring manoeuvre was textbook

Just recovered from the after effects of watching the game in the pub, followed by a couple more pubs and then a Ruby. Yesterday was difficult.

Congratulations to NZ a very, very good performance and the cup was well deserved. Commiserations of a sort to Aussie, I say of a sort because although you didn't get over the line, your boys helped ignite the competition and have played some very good, very tough rugby and put up a real fight against a very good NZ team (Mods: is there a limit to the amount of verys I can have? Hope not). The two best teams in the competition playing in the final is just deserts for playing good rugby and the best team on the day and through the tournament won. Not much to argue about there.

Of all the very good bits within the game I thought the standout was Wayne Barnes missing the forward pass when right in line. Karma. Does this mean we will not hear about 2007 again?

Thought not!

Well done NZ.
-
DC's career best performance may have been during the 2005 lions tour. After rewatching it I'd say you could argue a case for the RW15 final. Apart from a missed touch finder he barely put a foot wrong. He was a rock on defence and the last 20 minutes of the final he totally bossed it. Superior field kicking, forced a turnover with a deft chip kick, 40m+ goal kick to stretch the lead to 10. A virtuoso performance

Different kind of game - thing I remember about the 2005 game was he was just so robust on attack. Before his injuries I guess.

Someone was saying he became more rounded; had to because of the injury toll - smarter not harder and all that. But yeah, besides a missed touch finder and the missed conversion, hard to fault.

The defense in the last 15 minutes was just sheer desire. Would not be denied.
-

I don't mind scrums that go down just getting the ball the fuck out. That's what they're for - restarting play.

Sort of. I agree. If it's available get it out and get on with it.

But scrums are about dominance and setting a platform.

Unfortunately it's become about scrumming for a penalty. Personally i Only really noticed that or taken particular note of that this year. Don't like that. Something to be said for the old league dogs who used to have the Differential Penalty for scrum infringents (effectively a free kick). -

The Italians were doing it a few years ago I remember - didn't really like it then. A small, evil part of me liked seeing us destroy England  of course.

But if you establish that dominance early to let the ref know you're going to be aiming up there, then use it to put the opposition on the back foot, I think its a lot more effective. Depends on field position and need of course. 5 metres out from your own line, relieve pressure. 5m out from their line, go for the pushover/penalty try. Midfield, turn them to the blind and use your backs.
-

I said this ages ago, so chopped! (big saying in late 70's and early 80's, remember?)
