I wonder if the coaches of South Africa France and England are getting as much grief for losing so many test matches this year.
Probably but only 2 of that sides have played the ABs (who were briefly no.1) and both sides have beaten us.
The English no doubt console themselves with thinking we are too scared to face them.As to vitriol, I think it could get much, much, worse.
I'm just pleased we didn't play Scotland so we could keep one of our unbeaten records.
That is probably going straight to the Scottish dressing room for RWC2023
Like that makes any difference. I assume they try win whenever they play us, no matter what pithy comments fans make online.
Naaaaa in 2007 they rested a bunch of players against the ABs to rest them for Italy the next week.
... and wrecked our warmup for the quarters. Which we then borked by going to the south of france to clear our heads. Yeah, that worked.
Scots had a great win over the Eye ties though. Best part of that was winning a bet against a bloke of Italian descent that I worked with back then. I then gave up gambling cos it’s a mugs game.

2022 will be different. Ireland 3 times, SA in SA, England, Scotland, Wales, off session France maybe.
Omicron permitting 🥺

Omicron permitting 🥺I just worry Foster will win all of them as this would trigger multiple posts on how Jesus Chrobertson or another favourite coach would have won with twice the margin and with the AB "B" team....

No it really wouldn't, most everyone would be stoked if we had improved sufficiently for that to happen. The stick Foster is getting is due to his shit results, obtained in a shit manner, and his shit history with the Chiefs which meant that plenty of people couldnt understand his appointment and expected shit results and are frustrated to have been proved correct.

Well, your post might be the first time on the Fern where a poster (in this case me) has predicted something might happen and it does - before the predicted event...

I genuinely don't understand. I don't recall ever having posted in praise of Robertson, and I'd love for Foster's plan to come together and for the ABs to play great running, winning rugby.
Unfortunately what I see is them playing the same shit rugby, making the same mistakes and unable to cope against the same opposition tactics, not looking like they have a plan, or composure, and losing to teams they don't usually lose to. -

Unfortunately what I see is them playing the same shit rugby, making the same mistakes and unable to cope against the same opposition tactics, not looking like they have a plan, or composure, and losing to teams they don't usually lose to.My first comment was tongue in cheek and about some of the posts blaming Foster for all the ill's in NZ Rugby & praising Robertson to the skies, and me predicting what the impact of Foster being successful next year would have on some people.
My second post was pointing out that prediction seemed to have come true a little earlier...

Out of the 4 tests against the top-level opposition this year, this Ian Foster-coached ABs side won one game (in the last minute) and lost 3. Outmuscled and out-thought. Absolutely showing no signs of progress, neither in the development of players nor in the game's structure. Honestly, completely stunned by the way NZRU managed to sneakily and prematurely extend the current coaching panels' contract.

Although this points to 2022, still relevant, except a few points:
This article should start with TJP, Webber neednt be in it.
And Jacobson, who played mainly at 8 is under pressure from Blackadder and Dalton who played mainly 7?
Man our rugby writers are shite.
-
@taniwharugby i feel a bit sorry for havili (and the other centres)
That squidge rugby video really did show quite clearly how we just shovel the ball on to our 12 and expect them to do...something, often we actually isolate the 12...maybe arrogance that they'll break the line so dont need support or options?
9 and 10 need to be working before we can blame 12 too much
This article is the result of fozzie swapping people in and out so much, even if they have a good game, Jacobson looks good all season i thought....but because he didn't get several games in a row there is this impression he'd on the outer
-
@taniwharugby lol that article just screams "low hanging fruit"
how can i write an article about players under pressure without upsetting anyone? i know. i'll have a chop at a bunch of fringe players.
A "journalist" worth his salt would have had a crack at some of the "untouchables"

I think he's grouping them together as players who cover multiple loose forward positions. But even that doesn't quite work as Papali'i & Blackadder are both 7/6's and Jacobson best suited to 8 but can also play 6 & 7
What I really disagree was the idea that he could get squeezed for game time at the Chiefs. This year he was almost always at 8 with Pita Gus Sowakula at 6.
If Finau is coming into the mix at 6, Sowakula will miss out, not Jacobson. -
Sotutu might actually be more under threat than Jacobson. If you aren't a starter you really need to offer versatility.
At the moment he starts or is left out completely because the other guys offer more options from the bench.
He's basically an 8 at SR/AB level and nothing else (he has two starts on a the flank at NPC)
When subs happen at the Blues he stays at 8 and other players shift aroundMaybe finishing a few SR games next year at 7 would help his AB chances? Hard to see him getting any time at 6

or, you know, the AB selectors could fucking identify that the wet paper bag they have at 8 isn't the answer? And then suddenly he's a shout to start
-
do other teams swap around their players as much as we have over the last couple of years? or do they largely tick with combs that have performed other than injuries
trying get my head around how valid the idea is they need to be rested as much as they are

If I was in charge no8 would be a choice between Sotutu and Jacobson (and Sotutu would be in front)
I think he's under threat with this selection panel though
