Loooool
Here's a new one
Henry was a shit coach but Laumape was the answer at 12 and an asset we needed to keep.
Keep delivering Fern
It's getting better. Havili is apparently the answer at 13.
That's not getting started on the Laumape (5'7", 105 kgs) versus Nonu (6', 108kgs) comparisons.
Who would you have at 13 then ? Rieko Ioane certainly isn't the answer, he gets caught out position every time he plays in the midfield, he tends to drift across to the wing most of the time, when he has performed well starting in the midfield it's always when he's attacked down the flanks... put him back on the wings where he belongs, why the hell would anyone want play one of the fastest wingers in the world out of position anyway ?
L & N are not that tall compared to SBWs as a midfielder, think he was about 6'5'' he didn't break the advantage line up the guts as much them because they have a lower centre of gravity.
in fairness, using your logic, Rieko hasn't had a long run of games at 13, they keep doing what you suggest by putting him back to 11. Surely if Laumape needed a long run to really settle in the black jersey so might Reiko?
The bloke has had a really good crack at 13 with the Blues though & hasn't performed that well - also I look at player where he's going to add the most value for the team, for me it's his deadly pace, so would prefer him to be on the wing... him & Jordon would be my starting wingers for the ABs.
I'm having a good time imagining @Tim's head exploding about now.

Fucking looooool
Laumape has the same attributes of the most well-rounded 12 of the past 20 years
Am I being pranked here?
They are brown dudes who played 12 for the canes, and they both have 2 legs. All similarities end there

Best centre I have seen was also the bloody fastest in the backline, one Bruce Robertson, used his pace to run wingers into position!

I've had a bit to do with him up here, coaching and a bit socially, true gent.

It's unbelievable some of the shite you & a few others have fired at Laumape, yet you've said stuff all about the underperforming midfielders Foster has selected.
Anyway, the game is obviously controlled by the forwards - so for Ireland & France to do us over so badly in the forwards was an absolute bloody shocker ! we lacked mongrel/urgency taking the ball up through the phases, also didn't get enough numbers to clean, blow past the ball smashing the opposition players out the way... instead our ball carriers got isolated too much, allowing them to either steal our ball, win a penalty or slow our possession down a lot, this is just basic stuff we didn't do, the coaching staff & players have wake up & get things right.
Hopefully Schimdt can add some common sense to the coaching group, otherwise things are just going to worse, christ, that's a scary thought. -
@kiwibloke Can you point to a single outstanding, or at least quality, test match performance from Laumape?
I am struggling to think of any.

Totally agree, the bloke had all the skills & pace, was a very smart player too.

With your mindset about him there's not much point... anyway, may as move on as there's plenty to talk about with this current AB team with how poorly they're performing & looking how to get them back on track again.

I'm sorry, with my "mindset" there's not much point in examining his performances at international level, even from a committed advocates' point of view?
You have consistently advocated him as the best option for the AB midfield, yet you do not want to highlight a single test match performance?

He left ages ago mate - as said may as well move on... how good are your analsying skills ? what ideas do you have to improve the team & what are they in depth ?
-
Reckon Aaron Smith has always done too much box kicking, so gives away too much possession, would like to see him vary his game more with darting runs around the edges & grubbers etc.
-
@kiwibloke If he was such an excellent candidate, then surely it would be easy to point to some test match performances?

While Smith may have some input on what he thinks the game plan should be, that lies squarely with the coaches. He doesn't box kick just because he wants to.

It doesn't make it easy to point out a particular test because he was always in & out of the team, which also makes it difficult for him to get a combo going with the other incumbent midfielder, but can remember him playing well in parts of tests... by watching any player you see if they have the goods to play in tests, he certainly did.
Since the days of Nonu/Smith we have always struggle to find a really good midfield combo, ALB/Goodhue midfield played a lot of tests together, but never had much to offer on attack. -

It might be a tactic from the coach - but Smith is the one out on the field, so it's on him to read a situation & take the best option available... kicking a lot of box kicks is thoughtless as I've mentioned before, the ball only travels about 30 metres downfield & the chances of regaining the ball in the air is less than 50/50 as the opposition are running towards the ball, also if he overweights the ball & it travels too far downfield it just gifts the other side possession.

Game plan is squarely on the coaches. If Smith is going outside of that then they won't be happy. If he's not performing the game plan to their standard, then they won't be happy (and will no doubt work on it). Smith isn't just going out there and doing whatever he wants just on a whim.

As said the players have to think for themselves when on the field & take the best option available, how is that a whim ? it's smart rugby... anyway, over box kicking is a dumb plan/tactic as I mentioned in detail.

Definitely, the coaches need to come up with something a lot better than this outdated tactic and bring it into play. Smith is doing as he judges fit, within the game plan. It's ludicrous to suggest the players just go out there and do whatever they like.
