Black Caps v Pakistan

Meanwhile, Pakistan waste a review.

Santner is an allrounder.
Test averages of 25 and 44.
Jamieson on the other hand averages:
54 and 14.5.
Just to put Santners all rounder statistics in perspective.
The 19 run differential between bat and ball compares to Jacques Kallis who averaged 32 and 55 to make a 23 run differential.
This post is unintentionally hilarious.

Unintentionally?
I put a lot of thought into that post.

We lost the toss (again - get it sorted Kane). Pakistan bowling.
Nice day in The Bay it seems.
Santner is in (hmmm).
Rosco most capped NZ cricketer of all time.
Southee and Boult bring up their 100th innings opening the bowling together, and Stuff has them as second on the all time list.
Stuff thinks Anderson and Broad are first, Wasim and Waqar third, then Ambrose and Walsh, and McGrath and Gillespie.

Actual quote from a typically brilliantly crafted Stuff article.
“I feel like I’ve bowled a lot with Timmy, but not that many times,” he says

@Gunner I don't care about cricket. This is the worst time for me on the Fern.
I'm glad that my cricket loving friends and whanau can watch cricket live at McLean Park though, and if it also annoys BoP fans in the process then that's just a bonus.
I can see why BoP fans would be annoyed.
Why should the Northern Districts Invitational XI have to play any games away from Bay Oval?
It's outrageous!

Little Kane with a Trevor Franklinish strike rate here....what’s going on ?

Been a tough first session. Survival is the most important goal
-
Meanwhile, up in Cricket Valhalla, there's an ad break on the telly.
Sir Jack Berry Hobbs nudges Stewie Dempster in the ribs. "You still don't make that team, Stewie!"
-
Only following on cricinfo, but seems like pretty tough batting conditions this morning.
Kane and Ross battling away, hopefully things will be a bit easier after lunch and these two can keep going.
-
Honours even after first session. If pitch dries up and flattens out we could do well.
-
There's something oddly comforting about KW and Taylor batting together even it is only lunch on the first day.
-
Speaking of which, 100 partnership up, their 10th and Taylor also brings up his 50. Cricinfo thinks 10 century partnerships is NZ's most for any pair.
-
Really good batting from these two, who have batted for pretty much two sessions after coming together at 2 for bugger all.
Batting got easier in that last 30-40 minutes, so here’s hoping they and the middle order can push on and capitalise on the good position they’ve got us into.

Time to put the hurt on them in the final session

That's because they're smart enough not to treat him like an allrounder.
He'd be averaging neither of those numbers if he batted at 7 and bowled with a ball 50 overs old before he touched it.
He's a kid concentrating on his core role. His batting is a bonus so far , looks organized, but his run output so far is based on aerial pulls, hooks, and slogs off spinners.
-
Williamson not out in the 90s overnight for the second time in a row.
He’s really quite good

If he gets out now, I'm requesting a long ban for you.

I’m way too much of a big deal round here, it would never happen

To be fair, I missed the 'overnight' part (and I'm mostly watching the Aus/India match) which indicates that you didn't post until after the last ball of the over, so hopefully your jinxing won't work with a 12 hour delay.

I had the courtesy to wait until the days play was over

Do you think it gets boring for Kane now that he's clocked cricket?

@Rapido said in Black Caps v Pakistan:
He's a kid
Not sure that I would call Kyle that. He turns 26 in a couple of days. Inexperienced at test level, sure, but made his first class debut in 2014, was also in the NZ under 19s so been around for a bit.
What I like about him is attitude - he appears to be grumpy (like a fast bowler should be).
It also sounds like he has worked on his technique to get more speed and it seems to have been successful. He was low 130s I think, now seems to be high 130s and even more dangerous.@Rapido said in Black Caps v Pakistan:

Definitely a bonus. His SR is 71 so at least he must be picking the correct balls to have slog at, not just wildly swinging (he's also played some classy shots too). We were looking to up the run rate in a couple of those innings as well so a few big hits were justified.
Weather going to be complete lottery today it seems. Showers, thunderstorms, hail. Usually those events are localised so might miss the ground if we are lucky.

It does look like that at times. "Here comes the ball, watch it, hit it, repeat" but, nah, he lives for it. I was worried that he go all Federer after having a kid /s and not be quite his old self. That doesn't look likely.

His wife is hawt as well; he must really like batting.

Maybe I should have said : "Here comes the wife, watch it, hit it, repeat"?
-
He fucken hates raising his bat for tons, and I love him because of that😄
-
Onya Kane. Now to try and beat your last innings score....
-
Fuck me, Peter Williams and Glen Larmer(sp? - I don't really care) are fucking atrocious. I knew Williams was bad from the execrable days of the late 70s and early 80s on TVNZ cricket comms, but omg he has regressed. Larmer is just a fucking idiot complete with y'knows and ehs and complete lack of language skills. CMJ and Richie used to say that first person "I" was not to be used by the Ball-by-ball comm. "They're here to find out what is happening, not your personal experience."
-
KW has just snuck above Virat Kohli in test averages and is a smidgeon below Sachin Tendulkar. That’s pretty decent from 82 tests. The Bobs and Vagene crew will lose their shit when they see that.
-
Kane has scored 42 runs through the covers so far out of 117, I bet they all looked freaking sublime.
-
@SynicBast said in Black Caps v Pakistan:

Yep, and he just kept them coming. Pretty to watch.
-
Is itr just me or has doully got really professional in eliciting comments from his colour comms, - never heard Braces sound so engaged before - usually he's as dull a monotone as you can get. Although that's better than the extreme of Danny Morrison . So there is hope for the comms here.
Yes I'm in full GOM mode - 50 years of RNZ/Radio Sport/ABC(Galloway and Waddle, Macgilvray and Maxwell) has spoiled me utterly
-
We must be the worst team for using reviews (or not using them)
-
@SynicBast he seems to have matured a bit, or at least reads the room better! I enjoy listening to him and he does work well with others - especially when ribbing ex players.
-
Shocking decision not to review there. As a batting team you get 3 reviews and there is only 10 wickets. Of the 10 wickets probably only 3-4 would even be reviewable. Any top order batsman should be reviewing basically any decision if there is any doubt.
-
I see Ferners are piping up in the comments section of Cricinfo
-

The Aussies are up there (they just wasted a review)
-
I'm not sure what is wrong with Peter Williams ? he's been a solid broadcaster for as long as I remember. Not massively dynamic but certainly not grating or irritating either.
-
Bugger, Kane drops below Kohli with that dismissal.
