Im also guessing with all this talk of "smashing him", that if does occur illegally, now that it is public there is likely to be a good old fashioned "handbags at five paces" with a few players running in. Adds to the theatre for this weekend
Is kicking to him to smash him it a legit tactic? I agree with @kirwan that it didnt work in SRA, so who knows if they will go through with it. I would say its probably more due to the fact that because none of them could tackle him last time and wanting to make a statement of intent, that they will make at least one tackle this time
-
maybe im too simple, i would have thought starving him of ball, maybe force him to come off his wing looking for it would be better

All smoke and mirrors I reckon.
These are the sorts of things all teams/coaches throw out before a test. Feeding crumbs to the masses thinking they’re being fed a meal!

I'm all for a bit of shit talk. Get amongst it lads!! talk yourselves up! Put your opposite on notice.
Beats the fuck out of the usual heavily-media-coached bullshit.
Most media attached to professional sports is completely useless.
-
@mariner4life totally agree, may even get a few more people interested if they feel there is a bit of fire

@Nevorian And Clarke is particulary good under the high ball, to the point that the Crusaders plan was to NOT kick to him.
You saw a presentation at a pub didn't you
They only have those in Canterbury 🦴 s.

14 Jordie Barrett (19)
15 Beauden Barrett (85)16 Codie Taylor (52)
17 Alex Hodgman (1)
18 Tyrel Lomax (2)
19 Scott Barrett (37)
20 Dalton Papalii (3)
21 TJ Perenara (66)
22 Ngani Laumape (13)
23 Rieko Ioane (31)Still strange to see that our best First Five is playing out of position, that our best Fullback is playing out of position and two of our most exciting young talents (Akira Ioane and Will Jordan) don't get a look in.
Still a question mark for me about Shannon Frizell as a Test 6 and Richie Mo'unga as a Test 10.
I can live with the rest. A good team. Loving the idea of Laumape and Reiko Ioane off the bench.

@sparky Paul Cully was saying on twitter today that Frizell is by far NZ's best blindside. Is he seeing something that we aren't? I hope he proves me wrong but have not been convinced by him so far at test level.
I actually thought he had a very good game last week. Stood up when we needed someone early on with aussie on attack, did lots of stuff well. He's no Kaino yet, but he was decent

Was impressed with his breakdown and lineout work but am not convinced about his physicality on defence. Have hardly seen him put in dominant tackles like Paps and some of the others regularly do.

He certainly doesn't have a tight handle on the Jersey yet

Like that Fozzie's kept the team as unchanged as possible with only injury changes in the starting 15 but able to try different things off the bench. Like the idea of Laumape coming on in the last 20 mins or so.
Don't have a problem with Frizell at 6 as thought he went well & combined well in Bled 2 with Ardie & Sam. Just don't get Jordie at 14 though. Class player but out of position for me and can't see the logic of it.

Looks hungry for it though.

Cully is pretty pro Frizell/Highlanders.

I'm not completely sold on Frizell, but I think I wrote about it last year in a post, showing that he's quite a grafting 6, who in that game was winning line out ball, making plenty of cleans, had a few runs, and was pretty accurate with his tackling.
He's probably a stop-gap until Robinson, Paps, or Akira steps up, but at least we've got a guy in the jersey who is a worker.
At that point they were still experimenting with Fifita!
They should have committed to both Frizell and Akira earlier, but were still holding out on Squire (sigh).
Personally, I'd give Akira a go, but I can live with Frizell in the jersey.
