Foster inherited a team on the slide who seem to have mental problems when under pressure and a set of outdated tactics which other teams have sussed.
My big worry is that Foster is probably an OK continuity coach but isn't a coach who can turn a team around
There’s a bloke around who could do that I think. Done it before.
Dances a bit too.

Pathetic. There is now way he can come back from this. Not sure what the options are at this point. Even if next season returns to a semi-normal schedule you pretty much have to fire him before the EOYT because you can't send a dead man walking off without an extension.

The faith of the players must already be slipping

Very hard to preach a 'high performance environment' when everyone knows they've been coached by at least a couple of better minds at lower levels.

Was this a Mark Robinson hire? Feels like something he would do....

He was on the panel.

Robinson was on the panel, but Tew set up the process which ran off Rennie and Joseph - so I think ultimately you have to say Tew was the one who put his thumb on the scales for Foster. The general sense was Hansen/Tew always wanted Foster irregardless of ability, results or other candidates.
Ted was on the panel too and said he wanted Rennie, but that wasn't an option to him.
I'm not sure Razor was the right answer either, but if we need him as a "break glass in case of emergency" candidate for a two year run like Rassie or Cheika there are worse candidates.

Let’s be honest, Foster and the succession plan was locked in many moons ago.

Fuck I hope not. Hopefully these results will convince him to stay.

Doesn’t he know, that’s the OLD route to the ABs top job.
The new one is just be a half arsed super rugby coach, get appointed to the ABs assistant role and you’re a shoe in -
@antipodean a rugby ball, two teams and a result?
-
Ardie is a good player but he is a 7, he should be competing with Cane or on the bench. Jordie is a good player but he isn't a wing. Frizzell is a good player but he isn't proven test standard. The list goes on but these are all obvious to anyone with half a rugby brain.

@sparky said in The 'How is Fozzie going?' thread:
Are any of us that surprised that Foster's team turned out to be shite?
Not really, they aren't even playing much rugby that is great to watch (one + game excepted).

Great post, I've been stewing over this for the past few hours and I think you're right that the 'process' of appointing the new coach was just a way of appointing Foster. The key lesson from 2007 was that the best team to take forward was Ted, Smith, and Hanson. If we were looking for teams this time, it would probably be Joseph and Brown, but they didn't apply due to the 'process'.
