It might not be Thursday but I am making a bold prediction that Devan Flanders will be starting at No. 8 against the Crusaders and Vaea Fifita will be somewhere in the 23. Sadly I am also predicting the Reid Prinsep will retain his number 6 jersey. Mr. Flanders was not impressed when reminded of his club team getting cleaned up by Napier Tech Old Boys in the HB season opener!!!!!!

@higgins I hope you’re right. About time Devan Flanders got a gig.

He’s been notably absent from any team sheets since round 1, he’s playing for a contract also as he’s only signed a 1 year deal.

So going from the Hurricanes Insta story and the fact that non starters wear bibs on Wednesday means we may very well get to see Ruben Love run the cutter this week with PUJ coming into 13 outside Laumape (about time).

Looks like Savea retains his 14 jersey and Rayasi takes a seat. I can see both Kirifi and A Savea but I can’t see Prinsep or Flanders so I’m not sure who misses out.

We can’t have something we have wanted to see since JGB was ruled out....I think the coaches missed a trick not having him on the bench against the Blues which if correct means he’ll face the Crusaders only having played 10 mins

Hope so. Leger is just too limited so why not see what Love can offer

And Kirifi has become a bit of a hot-head. The yellow card was deserved and idiotic (unlike Savea's) and cost 3 points for starters. So time out of the starting 15. And anyway Flanders deserves a start.

I don't mind Prinsep in the team. As long as he's not also there with worker mate at lock

Get the selections right and there is hope. Granted a small one but get them wrong again and there's none.

I am usually happy to stick up for Leger and while he has done what has been asked of him in an emergency and out of position, I also find it baffling that Love wasn't given more time.
The coaches seemed set on him being a fullback despite his pedigree and style of play. I know that he played his last year at PNBHS at 15 but he grew up as a 10.

@crucial 15 seems to be played as a 2nd 10 anyway so I doubt it would majorly matters. I know it’s a couple steps up but he’s been club rugby at 10.

@winger I agree with Kirifi maybe A loose forward trio of Prinseep, Savea and Flanders with Fifita on the bench, wouldn’t mind Iose getting a run off the bench instead.

I can understand why they went with Leger to start with if it was as a stopgap while they had Love training at 10 to get up to speed with the plays but it has been poor planning to not give him some decent minutes before now.

@crucial the management of the whole campaign has been piss poor tbh. Love trained with the Canes last year aswell so evidently they should have given him time in the saddle at training back then anyway, especially knowing he's going to be a crucial playmaker for us moving forward.

It doesn't really matter anyway, Holland is still going to select guys like James Blackwell so I doubt we will get enough ball to see Ruben Love shine, especially against the Crusaders.

Love should have got an opportunity at 1st 5 for Wellington but they had all their eggs in the JGB basket too. If only the Hurricanes looked outside Wellington for alternatives...

They have (looked outside). Leger is the outcome.

It would be a big ask of him. But its not like they are in contention for anything now. Except that is for last place.

The same Leger who hasn't even been playing 1st 5 for CM. He has been asked to fill a role because the alternatives who play in that position at NPC level have either left NZ or been ignored.

Yeah odd comment when the guy is listed in the squad as a midfielder.
He filled in during the pre-season and was adequate so they somehow believed that would be good enough in the comp when injuries hit.

Leger has filled-in at 1st 5 for the Chiefs, just FYI

Yeah, we discussed this ages ago. He was a stopgap there too.
As I say, I can see the logic in using him but it was never going to be an optimum long term solution so they should have blooded others sooner.

Yes, a game I was at - the opener vs the Highlanders in 2019. As @Crucial says, it was a stop-gap as DMac, Falcon, Debreczeni and MMac were all unavailable due to injury. He played OK in that game but is a primarily a 2nd 5 since leaving school.
