Any injury updates for round 1?
I saw Peter Umaga-Jensen had his first child so that explains why he wasn't in Alexandra.
I assume Coles will slot back into the 23, whether that be straight into the starting side or in the way of easing him back in off the bench.
Not sure why we haven't seen the likes of Walker-Leawere, Evans and Leaupepe yet? I assume they are all injured?
Anyone have the inside word?

@stargazer I thought he looked decent last year until his opportunities dried up. As for the canes? Not going to be pretty
At 1st 5 I thought he was awful to start and the best he got to was adequate. He was VG at FB

I don't expect much this year. But maybe I'm too pessimistic. The biggest issue for me is I don't rate the coaches.
-
@winger yeah it's hard to get past the fact they can't spot Super level talent. I feel there needs to be a huge cleanout at the Canes. Some of those coaches have been there far too long, plus it wouldn't hurt bringing in coaches that have a new perspective and no favouritism towards certain players.

Holland was there for 5 minutes and he was HC wasn't he? Our golden era is well and truly over, Winter is coming

@canefan he only got the gig because Plumtree moved into the All Blacks. Coach by default really and now he’s got f all experience around him.
Funny that you saw and heard from CEO Avan Lee almost every week when we were doing well vs now where he’s hardly made a peep in the last year.
They seem like a bunch of tugboats behind the scenes.

I wasn't totally convinced by Plumtree either, Boyd got pushed out by some gentlemen's deal. Might be time for a culture change

@canefan haha no thank you.
I think the culture from a player point of view is fine. It’s more of a case of cleaning out the administration of the Canes and getting people in there that will improve the organisation rather than hinder it through poor recruitment and coaching.

@bovidae Cron is still there but I don’t think he should be. They should have done a complete clean out when Holland was appointed.
Holland was never chosen as the HC in the first place. They should have flushed the whole setup. But the timing was poor, right before the season was to start, the board were backed into a corner. I suppose now he is coach, keeping him felt like the path of least resistance

The Hurricanes have named two teams for Saturday's 2.15pm game. A Hurricanes Hunters team and a Regional XV, which seems to be mostly a team of of players that didn't make the Hurricanes WTG. So basically a Hurricanes 2nd XV against a Hurricanes 3rd XV. Lincoln McClutchie just made bench of the 3rd XV.
Hunters:
Regional XV:Edited to add that you can conclude from this that Evans, Walker-Leawere and Kane Le'aupepe are injured.
-
@stargazer good news, seemed very odd not to have him on the bench.

@stargazer holy fucking shit, McClutchie involved with the Hurricanes? Maybe they can recognize talent within their regions?
McClutchie was in the Hurricanes Under 18 (2018) and Hurricanes Under 20 (2019). They've obviously made their mind up subsequently they don't want him.
