So players missing from this game are Coles, Aumua, Lomax, Le’aupepe, Walker-Leawere, Savea, Evans, Fifita, Hickey, Laumape, Barrett, Aso.
Don't forget Prinsep. And Rakete-Stones

Leger at 10 is interesting. I know that it is gap filling at the moment but good to see that his utility value is rated there.
I thought that he looked better at 10 for the Chiefs than at 12 in NPC.
He’s quite capable of running a game.
Edit: would have been good for him and JT to be pairedIts an interesting selection. Maybe Hickey is injured at present (as opposed to just be cautious) and Love is considered too young.
It will be a big game for a number of potential starting player. Esp both HB's, Flanders and Rayasi. But also Love, Iose and Toala who might only be considered if there are injuries. Unless they impress in this game

Can anyone enlighten us to who Number 17 B Strang and Number 18 in the first Game K Stewart are?
I have done initial checks into the archives of the WRFU to scrutinise the submitted team sheets for almost grade since 2016 and do not find those names anywhere. This leaves to only answer to them being Presidents Grade players as that was one of the grades I missed. I did note however that there was a P Stewart playing second five for some composite school team in about 2017 so guess that must be him/her.

@Higgins Ben Strang is a hooker and Kyle Stewart a loosehead prop. Both from Manawatu.
Obviously, Manawatu ranks higher than Hawke's Bay, because otherwise they'd have picked Jason Long/Patrick Teddy and Kianu Kereru-Symes/Jacob Devery, although I'm still hoping Kianu will be named in one of the Blues' squads.

@Stargazer I can't recall having seen them play for the poorly performed 'Poo so that's how much of an impression they must have made on me! Standard form for Hurricanes selectors is to troll through absolutely anyone that might be even remotely available that it registered to a club affiliated to the WRFU before they reluctantly consider anyone else.

@Winger Kirifi may not be a starter given that openside is Ardie's specialist spot. Still they way they powers that be behind the Hurricanes operate nothing would surprise me.
But Savea is the current AB starting 8. So would expect to see him focus at 8 with maybe some game time at 7. But my comment was for this one game only. Julian was preferred when hes unlikely to get much game time so why not give Kirifi a go.

ASav is the new captain.
Referees will be happy. Ardie is less likely to burst an eardrum like the last few Hurricane captains.

Anyone got a stream?

@Canes4life I’m providing updates via the thread

@Canes4life Chiefs replied to my comment on FB and said it wasn't being televised.

Hard to believe any of those named as "key gains" will actually make the match day 23 (other than in an injury crises) let alone start a match.

Missed the reserve HB prop J Hintz making the bench for both games, but then again he is originally from Wellington so I suppose that counts in his favour!
