Hurricanes 2021

Holland mentions around the 10min mark that Blackwell and Prinsep are two of the main leaders within the squad. No wonder they keep getting picked.
Interesting to hear the Holland would have been a part of Razor's AB team if he got the gig meaning the Canes were always going to lose one of their coaches.
Holland's young player to watch out for in 2021 is Ruben Love.

@Canes4life Has any General won a war if his rank and file foot soldiers were shite? A crap General might be able to fluke a win in a few battles if his foot soldiers are good though. Looks like we won't be seeing either here this season.

Only really dumb coaches would do this
I don't mind Princep so much. Hes fairly ordinary though but ok if he got great leadership skills then 1 and only one in the team is fair enough. But Blackwell is not even clsoe to supper rugby quality. And 2 plodderrs one (Blackwell) who is rubbish most games is too mcuh for any team that wants to win rather than just make up the numbers
The difference between a winning coach and one that just adequate can be small. Its these sorts of decisions that makes the difference. And really with Coles, Savea and the Wellington Captain surely that's enough. Not ever forward needs to have leadership qualities. Esp those that when they are captain (Princep and Blackwell) the team does a bit shit

Very good interview. JW was OK. Not over the top (bordering on painful) as he can be

A Canes pre season update below:
-
Has anyone seen much of Cam Roigard? (Counties first five) he looks to have joined the Canes as one of their training squad members along with Caleb Delaney who IMO should have been there in the first place.
-
@Canes4life He's more of a halfback. Roigard was in the wider NZ U20 squad.
-
@Canes4life Watch these highlights.

So this looks to be another kick in the nuts for Lincoln McLutchie.

Counties half back joined academy out of St Peters Cambridge. Handy goal kicker too. Stood out in Counties club rugby for Onewhero last year and made senior squad for the first time, fought his way to be number two in squad.
-
@Higgins He's Counties' second-choice halfback, not a first five-eighth. See the clip posted above by @Bovidae, and - for example:
So basically, it's more a kick in the guts of Connor McLeod and any Wellington halfback that hasn't made the squad, yet. (Don't know whether Hauiti-Parapara and Connor Collins are already in the Canes wtg). -

Maybe I'm missing something but unsure why you rate him so highly. Hes certainly not a 6 and never well be and I'd rate him below Blackwell (although he's slightly taller) as a lock. Sadly he's the sort of player these coaches rate. Good attitude (it seems) but just lacks the physical qualities and skills. And I doubt even with lots of conditioning he will ever have them

Hes listed as a first 5

@Winger I think your missing something then. He was very solid for Wellington in his limited game time and is definitely a number 6. Very good line-out option, dominant defender and looks to be a smart player to boot. He’s still young so has some developing to do but from what I’ve seen he’s a much better prospect than Blackwell. One of us will be proven wrong I guess.

I spotted Orbyn Leger in one of the Hurricanes Insta stories today.
