Hurricanes 2021

@canes4life As a HB supporter I desperately hope he will be back to hinder the Wgtn Lions!
-
@canes4life Maybe not as there is an good list of other young superstar hotshots brought in from outside Wellington that have not "made it".
-
@higgins you could argue they’ve both made it, atleast at Super level as they’ve both secured contracts - something that a certain HB fly half has failed to do.
I’ve got close sources that are mates with Perenara who thinks Love will definitely be an All Black. He’s certainly shown he can command a backline, something that McClutchie needs to show more of before taking that next step.
Perfect opportunity for him to do just that for Hawkes Bay this year.
-
@canes4life Jeez you talk some absolute bullocks when you’re on the troll. When has Love shown he can command a backline in his short first class career? He’s the most babysat 10 ever to enter Super rugby. I’m no fan big of Jordie but he does all the commanding in the Canes.
-
@nepia I’m the troll? Jog on. You blokes seem to be the ones that keep harping on about it and then get offended if anyone else mentions a player outside of Hawkes Bay that might have potential.
If McClutchie was the little master that you guys keep making him out to be he would be in Super Rugby by now. From what I’ve seen of him he can’t even dominate at NPC level, what makes you think he will be any good at Super.
-
@nepia Love also hasn't commanded a backline for the Wellington Lions as he played fullback for them in his 5 games. McClutchie has done it for years at NPC level.
@Canes4life I don't doubt Love has a lot of talent, but stop talking shit just to put McClutchie down, because we all know he's not in the Canes squad because of all the favouritism that's going on. That favouritism is not just my opinion, but I also know people close to the Canes and they confirm it's an issue that's been there for years and they are Wellington supporters, who are very worried about the state of Wellington 1st XV rugby!
Oh, and Love signed with Wellington because they could throw more money at him and offered him accomodation to go with it, something Manawatu couldn't do. I am sure people in the Manawatu set-up aren't happy about that either.
-
Haha McClutchie hasn’t done it for years, not from what I’ve seen anyway. You do realise if he was as good as he’s made out to be another franchise would have snapped him up in a heart beat but the guy can’t even get a WTG position anywhere. Isn’t that saying something?
It’s fine, I know you lot are passionate about Hawkes Bay and the players that come from there, rightfully so. If he’s good enough he will make it, but right now I think he needs to have a big year this year to prove his doubters wrong.
I don’t blame Wellington and the Canes for signing Love. He looks like a player that ticks all the boxes of a future star. He’s the right size, he’s a smart footballer, he’s got an outstanding set of skills and his peers are raving about him. I’m not saying he too needs to prove himself but I have been impressed with what I’ve seen so far.
You don’t see me going on about certain Wellington players missing the cut at the Canes, it’s part and parcel of the professional footy landscape. Guys like Plumtree, Umaga-Jensen, Ah Koui, Garden-Bachop are all guys from Wellington that have had to look elsewhere for opportunities so suck it up fellas.

If anyone has access to the Canes Facebook page they’ve just posted pics of today’s training session and it looks like either Ben May or Craig Miller has joined the squad, or it could be someone else but I can’t make out who it is. Possibly for Mafileo or Armstrong who I believe are injured atm...
Update: here is the post from their Insta account:
-
@canes4life It's Ben May. Craig Millar was named in the Japanese National WTG, just a week ago, btw. He could never be here.
They must be pretty desparate to pick him after professional retirement. I assume he's been playing club rugby in Taranaki?
Who's gone down? Fidow and Rakete-Stones are still there, by the looks of it. I assume we'd have heard it if Lomax was injured, because he's an All Black. Armstrong? Mafileo? -
@stargazer that’s interesting. I’m assuming it’s Mafileo that’s injured. He took a heavy hit in that Tahs game but haven’t heard anything since. Also haven’t seen Armstrong for a while so it could also be him.
If they’ve brought in Ben May surely it’s just to have a big body to train against.

Hurricanes playing club rugby on Saturday, 5 June
Wellington
Pepesana Patafilo (Tawa)
Peter Umaga-Jensen (Wainuiomata)
Danny Toala (Wellington)
Vaea Fifita (Wellington)
By the way, I've noticed that Murphy Taramai is back playing in Wellington (Upper Hutt Rams). Could that mean he'll move from North Harbour to the Wellington Lions for NPC? That's assuming he's no longer in the Hurricanes' frame.
Auckland
Lolagi Visinia (Suburbs)
Manawatu
Liam Mitchell (Te Kawau) -

Hopefully not.
-
@canes4life Not on the Fern, but you should have seen the comments on Hurricanes social media!
-
@stargazer 99% of the comments were probably from his other half defending him.
