Bugger. He was one player I wanted to watch
Also this. Hopefully he can sort this out.
Off-season recruit Solomon Alaimalo, meanwhile, remains unavailable for selection. “He's dealing with some personal issues, he's outside of the team at the moment,” Dermody said.

@kiwimurph poor kid, such a promising talent but seems to be the next glass man. Hopefully makes a swift recovery.

damn it

@kiwiwomble poor bugger. Probably puts a question mark on him making the AB's as well, the way he's been playing I would have thought he'd have been called up this year.
Edit: of course he's not gonna make the AB's as ACL injuries are 9 months minimum.

@kiwiwomble buggar alright, for Highlanders (who will now probably use Smith more than they would have) but esp for him as he must surely have been on the AB radar

Otago halfback James Arscott has been bought in as a replacement for Fakatava. The injury list has grown over the last few weeks for the Highlanders with the promising Thomas Umaga-Jensen and Freedom Vahaakolo both ruled out for the season. They have been replaced permanently in the squad by Otago midfielder Josh Timu and Southland utility back Josh Moorby.

Real shame because Folau Fakatava was playing great footy and looking every inch an All Black.
He's young so hopefully he'll bounce back after surgery.

Not the update anyone wanted to see. Easily in the top two halfbacks in the country.

@bobily2 its a tear rather than rupture, my rupture was given 12 months for full recovery so would have thought a tear was faster?
Yea, I didn't make that distinction when reading it. From what I've heard Handre Pollard is looking at over 6/7 months overall recovery time for his tear that occurred late-ish last year. I think Fakatava would likely be out of the NPC then, either way.
I think the stuff article suggested he'd be out for 9 months to a year, but they might not have made the distinction either
