What position did you play?

mostly Centre/ Wing , Fullback ,
played a lot of league growing up and was considered a guy that liked to tackle in high school rugby, and had a coach who put me in at openside for a while , enjoyed that at that level , but otherwise always a reasonably quick outside back

Halfback.
You're right, no need to say more.
I was the non yappy, non swearing, non flap my arms halfback. Hard to believe I know.
Hang o, you said you were a halfback. Does not compute.

Didn’t play rugby, not sure why. Old man pushed me more into soccer which I disliked, played all over the place there.. preference was Left Right Out....
Grew up loving cricket and softball. Had a mean arm so was always a pitcher in softball and pretty handy (if I can say so myself) medium lace bowler.
We are allowed to talk about other sports here right?

A slow centre or an even slower winger.
I could always claim I had too much panache and flair to play in the forwards even though I’m tall. In saying that I had a brief spell at 6.
I was skinny all through high school and I think the words of my Mum saying Rugby was ‘rough’ rung in my ears. I became better after bulking up, developed a knack for fending, running straight and tackling ( provided the attacker didn’t sidestep too much ) but then took a hiatus at the age of about 19 which is still going.
I coulda been considerably better had I developed way more confidence at a young age

generally I aim for 60+ on Sundays. Prepares me well enough for Marathons (not that there are many on these days) but still have plenty to work on.
So... running 60km once a week (on top of the other 120 km a week) prepares you fro a 40km jog.
Riiiiight.
Prop here.
LH or TH?

@Virgil tell us about your lace bowling, I presume you had a diabolical doily! Bet they never saw it coming 😁
Well don’t like to brag.. but I will.. wasn’t pacy but I could swing the shit out of the ball. For a while a coach tried to make me a spin bowler but hated that. I preferred trying to hurt people by bowling as fast as I can and knock the shit out of their stumps.

I was a left handed Jeff Thomson for awhile but that action wasn't good long term, how the fuck he did it for ages is beyond me. Now I'm more of a specialist pinch hitter.
I was actually due to make a comeback in a social 20/20 league ( they play across the road from my place ) so drinking while playing and then driving wouldn't have been an issue but Covid cancelled all that.

Played quite a bit of indoor cricket as an adult too, there was a cool place in Takapuna. Not sure if it’s still there?
The evening times we played suited me, all that humidity etc.
was a lot of fun, some games you got smashed but what I loved about it was at some stage everyone had their moment. Such a compact quick game you only needed a good over or a few whacks with the bat to make a difference. -

We beat a team 282-30 back in the day which was our first win after 10 or so straight losses the season before. The crossbat slog which is so frowned up in outdoor cricket is a great way to get a 7 ( 6 plus the quick single ). One of their bowlers went for about 40 in an over as he very kindly and unintentionally bowled very slow full tosses.
Fun fact, a young Jeetan Patel played on our team a few times, this coincided with quite a few big wins.

Played 9 through most of my younger years (mainly as I was the smallest in the team, not cos I had a good pass, which I didnt)
As I got a bit bigger, I kept getting played there, until I made a team who had an awesome 9, so I got to play where I wanted, 6.
When I went to the UK, started at 7, then 6, had a few games at 9 (but the coach kept bitching about me getting caught in the rucks and mauls) had a run at 10, in the mid-field a few times, but mainly 6.
As a 6 I just kept going, got to every ruck (for inspection purposes) assisted with so many tackles, Pocock like with my ball carrying, but got the glory of plenty of tries by being near the ball all the time

I once got a guy out seven times in an over. Six of them bowled. He couldn't play in-swingers.

weren't they six ball overs in indoor ?

@MN5 Eight.
Yeah that rings a bell now you mention it. In our biggest win every partnership topped 60, our "closers" managed to get 80 odd. Easier off 8 ball overs of course.
Whilst they're not as hard as cricket balls the balls they use still smart a bit when a pace bowler hits you in the nuts.
