Blues v Chiefs

@KiwiMurph Yeah we really do. We should have won by plenty but continued to give the Chiefs multiple leg ups throughout the contest. If we sort that part of our game out (which we won't) the we'd be blowing sides away.
Chiefs fans, are you serious? You guys had a huge penalty count in your favour and had a ton of chances to put us away yet you're moaning about 1 call? Yeah it was a shit call but you had 79 minutes to take that game.
Cowley-Tuioti and Akira were our best forwards today with Rieko and Clarke being strong in the backs. I think Barrett should stay at 10 for the rest of the comp as well. We look sharper with him at first receiver. Ofa also got around well even though our scrum struggled with him and Hodgman in the first 40 but Tu'inukuafe and Mafileo changed things in the 2nd 40.
No one is claiming that we shouldn’t have been able to put the game away. That penalty count was taken advantage of by overhauling a big deficit.
We also got some puzzling calls and non calls during the game.
All we are saying is that it is highly likely that we would have won if that terrible call wasn’t made.
I can’t crystal ball all the other calls but that one can be assessed -
@African-Monkey more than one call. My main issue is the warning coming in the first half then no card until the 78th minute when there were plenty of penalties in between. The last call was the icing on the shitty cake. Blues fans won't complain obviously. Don't get me wrong I think the chiefs were average but the ref is incompetent and the Blues were helped by his incompetence.

Bulllshit, our scrum was not troubled the whole damn game. We were solid throughout, except for the penalty that Ofa gave away. Pickerill had a shocker.

Well, back from the game, and unfortunately a lot of what I"m about to write is about the ref. It's annoying as shit. Basically he looked to be out of his depth. Weird TMO decisions (the Christie try), ignoring 'in from the side' at the ruck (until randomly penalising it). Basically I think he has no feel for the game.
The call at the end looked 'interesting' from the other end, but balanced out by the horror call on the maul at the other end. Blues clearly the better side, with strong defence, and we managed to hand so much possession and territory to the Chiefs we made life very very hard for ourselves.
Sam Cane was very good - in the refs ear all the time, and BP started listening by the look.
For the Blues, Clarke carried really hard all day, Rieko played very well, and BB threw some nice passes. In teh forwards, Akira was strong, and the loosies in general went well. Big props to GCT and Pat T, physical in the second row. Front row went pretty OK too - generally the whole forward pack was solid.
Chiefs challenged well, but didn't really ahve much creativity in teh backs or dominance in the forwards. DMac is a livewire, but seems to have lost a bit of something with the injury. It's a real pity as he was sensational pre-injury.
anyway, winning ugly is a win. We'll take it; the penalty for the maul still makes me shake my head, the random no calls at rucks and the 'off feet' just make it a hard game to watch. Bottom line is the Chiefs weren't good enough to win. Feels good to type that - I spent all of the last few years having to say teh Blues weren't good enough to win if the ref was whistling against them. Finally we're overcoming it, but making it really ahrd for ourselves.
Our defence was sensational. Anyhoo, two games to go, can't wait. Great comp.

@Crucial I do see your point and it's a valid one but I'd be saying it if it were my team, I'd be filthy at other aspects of the performance over that call made at the end, and yes I acknowledge that it was a shocker, but it's not the sole reason why the Chiefs lost today.
@Yeetyaah you're a good poster, but we were not helped by the ref today, that's a rubbish statement by a fan that is hurt by losing 6 in a row (trust me I feel your pain, supporting the Blues is tough). A lot of penalties we conceded were on attack getting beaten to the punch at breakdown, or when we were in your half. Not that many were conceded in the danger zone.
-
@Bones I'm assuming the one at the end which was irrelevant anyway as the Chiefs made a break and we infringed at breakdown before the crossfield kick which was dropped by the Chiefs?
The only other one I can think of was where we had them held up on their own line until Tuipulotu came from the side?

BB threw some nice passes
When he wasn't throwing it forward or loopy passes to nowhere?
What was the bad maul call by the ref?
Hard to see on TV, but he mixed up the passing nicely. THrew some bullets.
Overall out handling was strong too - a lot of poor passes got cleaned up.
The maul call was at teh end - about 2 minutes before the Chiefs went down teh field and then conceded a penalty. Blues held up the Chiefs carrier, and PT was ruled 'in from the side' when it looked super marginal in real life (and probably had no effect). Look, Blues blew a bunch of chances - if we can stop conceding offensive penalties (and defensive penalties for that matter) we'll take some stopping.
-
Also, a mate just texted and the final penalty was right in front of him. Seemed to be a hero drive, and coudln't get the ball back -- that may be what the penalty was for (although I just watched highlights on line, and there is no way that JG was on his feet).

@Machpants @African-Monkey interesting- watching live it looked marginal as anything. Can't comment on the replay, but most fo the people around us were spewing

The Chiefs should've gone to a setpiece with Plummer in the bin, instead Cane calls for a tap.
Centre field 10 metres out is a hard kick for touch. Lots of risk. Scrum was possibly a lottery so they tried to take the ref out of the game. He found another way in.
I have no issue with the tap.
