AB squad for the Bledisloe Cup?

@Tim Most interesting comment in that is
"We have lots of guys who are a good physical size, who are great toilers who roll their sleeves up and get stuck in but in our view we can’t have everybody of the same ilk.
“We needs some contrast in that.’’
To me that reads that they are really looking for a Whitelock replacement or a ball playing lock.
Guzzler was both a lump and a ball player.
I agree that options are limited at the moment. TripleP is improving but needs to add more strings to his bow. Looks like we may have to squeeze as much out of Sam as possible.

Just realised when re-reading that quote. Foxy has turned into Gollum!
"We needs a new lock. A precious new lock"

I've always thought of Whitelock as an aerial lock. That is, excellent in the lineout and with kickoff receptions. But he has never been a ball-carrying lock who gets you consistent metres in the trenches. Even Aust gets more out of their locks in this area than the ABs do. I'd take a punt on Parkinson as he is the closest to that type of player.

And why refer to him in the past tense?

that's what you need. A decade and a half ago the Boks had it absolutely sorted with Matfield and Botha. And nothing has changed since then.
If you get one that can do both you are in business.

Surely the back three has to be Clarke, Jordan, Jordie?
-
@Tim said in AB squad for the Bledisloe Cup?:
@Bones Depends on where Rieko plays.
Perfect bench player with Beauds.
-
@Tim said in AB squad for the Bledisloe Cup?:
@Bones Playing better than ALB or Goodhue.
Good point. We know how good they can be though so I'd like to see them given a chance for at least a couple of games. Roane can slot in at 13 if they fail. Just please don't waste him or Goodhue at 12!

depends who we are playing...a 'form' and rookie back 3 wont supplant all the incumbants.

Jordie is an incumbent. Rookie wings didn't matter last year!
-
@Bones cant see it

What ya reckon, Jordan and Reece? Jordan and Bridge?
-
Oh...Roane and Reece? Jordan on the bench...
-
Shirley BB gets the 15 jumper. With Richie in good form, they won't leave BB out of the XV despite form not being too notch? Wings Jordan + 1, easier to pick 2 rookie wingers if you have BB at 15 so maybe Clarke gets it
Jordie on the bench I reckon. Or, cough cough, in the midfield...
-
Here is the thing - Jordan is great at 15 and looks completely lost on defense when he plays at 14. He's also not a great defender, and he'll likely have more tackles to make at 11/14.
I love him, he's super dangerous, but I'd really like to see that he play wing well (on both sides of the ball) at Super rugby level, before putting him there for the ABs...

So no real downgrade on our current no. 14...?

Eventually. Think all three could be fab but have obvious work onsm
Clarke needs to look for work more and score more tries.
Jordan needs to improve his defence.
Jordie needs to work on his decision-making and mental skills.

Disagree on Jordie. He's stepped up this year.
Anyway, can anyone name an AB back three player that doesn't have obvious work ons?

Yeah, the guy who consistently nails match-winning kicks needs to work on his mental skills...
