sad that it took a rusted on Blues fan to start a thread.

I blame @Stargazer
Surely he should be talking up some Hawkes player as the saviour??

surely last weekend wasn't enough to crush the spirit of our wildly optimistic Canes fans?

Surely Aride comes in at 8. Who plays 6 - Evans or Prinsep?
I know Prinsep isn't popular on TSF but he got through more work than Evans who was really ineffective last week
The Canes supporters know what the result is going to be before the game kicks off.
We have the worst most incompetent coaches in our history. Our head coach is even worse than Hammett. At least he wasn't as stupid to select a 1.90 lock. With limited skills apart from his lack of height. And a 6 that should only ever be played with serious injury issues
And his assistant are not up to much either. So these clowns in charge of the Canes will select the wrong players again, coach these players poorly with a limited game plan so the result is inevitable. Only injuries might save them from finishing bottom in this new competition. That is Blackwell and Prinsep are both injured (essential). And Jordie must come back (also essential). Tiatia is another limited player who offers SFA (there are other options but these clown coaches won't make them). Jordie transforms the back line so with him there it covers up the one dimensional limitation from the likes of Laumape. And with the clown coaches in charge his game is unlikely to improve

@Winger delete Canes, replace with Blues, it's pretty familiar Welcome to our world of the last few years. It sucks. No-one has a monopoly on competence, we should expect every franchise to be well run and effective (noting you won't always win)
Thank God the Blues have finally sorted things out. It seems to have happened after Board and management changes. And that's where it needs to start with the Canes.
Otherwise we will be lucky to hold onto Jordie. Or a great first 5.

Does that make them competent, or just not as incompetent as the incompetent coaches of the past?

Too many of the same old faces in the Canes coaching staff. We really need a complete cleanout. Dan Cron has been there for far too long, Cory Jane needs to leave the environment to get a different perspective on coaching, Jason Holland is an assistant coach at best and I think the CEO needs to show some leadership. Has anyone heard from him this year?
I believe we have the makings of a strong pack but I still think the core of that group is still a year or so from hitting their stride i.e. Fidow, Walker-Leawere, Aumua, Lomax, Numia, Rakete-Stones etc.
If we can get Otere Black back, keep Jordie, entice that 2m 120kg SA lock to finally come over, and stop making pathetic selection decisions (case in point with Blackwell at lock and Prinsep even starting), then we have the bones of a quality team when you run through the spine.
Alot happens in a year, or even a month. Just ask Blues fans.

Canes really need a VG lineout option at 6 if they have Kirifi at 7 and Savea at 8. The best by far of the alternatives is Fifita. But hes lacks discipline. But thats who I would play if they go for the Savea Kirifi option. A last chance to see if he can maintain his discipline . Another alternative is Savea at 7, Evans at 8 and Fifita at 6. Evans and Savea could alternate. An alternative is Flanders at 6 and Fifita and Scrafton starting at lock
There are a number of possibilities but none include Blackwell or Prinsep

He is still contracted to the Blues next year

This has been minimum 2 years in the making. The results are just the outcome of lots of hard work behind the scenes.
It's really weird; there's a strong relationship between the front office and the on field quality. It shouldn't make sense, but it does.

I don't even rate him as an assistant coach. He was the Canes attack coach and the attack slowly went back after he was appointed (even though we won in his first year from memory. But the year before was the better side and ended up as the top finisher but then played like crap in the final). Barrett's game esp went to the pack at first after he arrived
Why they appointed him head coach as they did is beyond me. It should have been a temporary appointment for 1 year only and then the job advertised when the year was finished
