@RoninWC those three can play 7 as good as Hunt is presently, there's not gonna be another out and out 7 in the squad.

Even if there was I'd think they'd be wanting to see if Kirifi can translate his form up a level.

Sorry but we will have to agree to disagree. I think that Papal'ii and Jacobson are slower over the ball as they are bigger guys. Also Hunt has a very good linking game and like a good 7, he's always on the shoulder of the ball carrier.

To me the other three are "loose forwards" and Hunt is an out and out 7.

Also, I would think Ardie isn't (edit for clarity) considered a 7 only, Sam sure, but not Ardie.

This makes no sense at all.

What's the thoughts on who will be the 3rd 7 option behind Cane and Ardie?

I doubt they go for a specialist

Probably Papali'i. I think his role will mostly be injury cover outside of the 23

Papali'i will be an awesome guy to have as bench cover. He can play all three backbench roles, as can Ardie.

Jacobson was doing last year what Boshier is doing this year - being better over the ball than Hunt. For guys that can't seem to be on the shoulder of the ball carrier they certainly seem to be "in the frame" an awful lot. Not as much as Kirifi though...

Hunt of 2-3 years ago I'd be in full agreement, but he's fallen off the pace and been surpassed.

Again I disagree. INHO Hunt has been just as good as those guys during SR A.

He's been a shitload better than Jacobson! Not nearly as prominent as Boshier, be it turnovers or carries and not as prominent as Papalii on defence.

Your argument is falling down here if SRA is the competition in discussion.

Openside flanker is probably the position which is the richest in NZ : Cane, Savea, Papali'i, Hunt, Gibson, Kirifi, Christie and even Jacobson according to Bones.

Boshier was awesome pre Covid, he's been average in SRA.

With the rise of Eklund and Slater and the continued rise if Aumua, Hooker suddenly doesn't look like such a problem position at all.
