@Derpus That's why I think fielding a "B" team is more likely. Send the guys with young children home early.
Yeah there will be less than an ideal team if it happens, but more like a 1.5th XV.
-
@Kirwan Yeah, and I wouldn't be surprised if more Argies test positive either. I think I read somewhere they're currently training in Uruguay? If there's one thing nobody wants, is members of one team infecting their entire bubble and then go on infecting the other squads.

Some refreshingly calm comments
Interim Rugby Australia chief executive Rob Clarke says they supported altering the draw, but no agreement to end the tournament by December 5 was ever signed after SANZAAR rejected two seperate proposals. But he says RU will continue to work with NZR to try and find a suitable resolution. "No one wants players and team management to be away from their families and in quarantine over Christmas," he says. "Rugby Australia will do everything in its power to help assist New Zealand Rugby and the team in finding a reasonable resolution, and in urging them to exhaust every possible alternative. "There are still more than two months to go before December 12 so we have plenty of time to find a solution. "We will continue to work with New Zealand Rugby and support them however we can, just like we are doing with the Springboks and Argentina in assisting with their travel plans, as well as making their stay in Australia as safe and as comfortable as possible during the tournament. "There have been a number of sacrifices made by each of the SANZAAR joint venture partners to get this far and I want to thank all of them for their flexibility and adaptability. "There is obviously a lot to achieve in the coming months but Iโm confident that under the leadership of each of the joint venture partners, that the 2020 Rugby Championship in Australia will be a great success."

@KiwiMurph Weasel words at the beginning. Robinson never said there was anything signed, just that they had an agreement with RA not to play that late in December.
I suspect they have been taken by surprise by NZR's response and are concerned the ABs are about to pull out.

Big talk but chances that NZRU jeopardize a huge amount of income because their employess will miss Christmas? doubt it.
Just like the big talk from Rennie threatening to boycott the first Bledisloe test?

Weber and Jioane at 9 and 10. Ha!
Marinos said the schedule is set as SANZAAR doesn't want to play 6 tests in 5 weeks for player welfare reasons. RA won't do anything and have put the problem back in NZR's court.
I'm waiting to hear an official response from SARU.

@Bovidae 6 games in 6 weeks is barely better, i expect the product to deteriorate in the 4th, 5th and 6th weeks as fatigue and injuries set in.
SAme as RWC, except bigger squads. Shouldn't be a problem IMO

@Machpants but no easy games like RWC as you build into it, know its same for all...gonna be interesting

I think that the Arg and SA games, at the start esp, will be easy. They'll be so undercooked

Can't trust the convicts!

@Bones Richard Kahui, Jeremy Rush to the rescue?
I was thinking more future wallaby stars....but probably not many left after wallabies selected.

The South African based Boks will have 3 domestic games, most likely an in-house game when in camp and two tests in the RC before they play us. Their NH based players have been playing since last month. I don't think they will be as undercooked as many are suggesting.
-
@akan004 I think they will, they'll be coming from all over the place, with really little time to sort out with a new coach. ABs will have SRA > M10 hit outs >camps > NZ tests. That's a much better position. I also think that SA (if they come, I think they won't) and Arg will really struggle to get their NH stars. Release periods do not count quarantine, so they'll be joining 2 weeks after the RC starts. NH clubs are more than happy to force their SA stars to play in EU travel during week to RC to play the next two weekends, and force them to come back for the stand down week in the RC during normal times. They won't be letting them out early.

Comforting to see such strong Christian values, and reverence for the birth of baby jesus still alive and thriving in NZ. ๐
None of this "we'll have an extra special Christmas when daddy gets home a few days later" nonsense. The 25th it is!
I would have thought a job that makes millionaires of sparsely educated 20 year olds might demand a few peculiar sacrifices.๐
One Christmas in one unusual year? Oh well. There's no getting away from it, the modern pro footballer is dance monkey dance. It's the only way the money comes in.
Fair dues whatever each player decides though๐
