I haven't read much about the SA squad, but it was rife amongst the Argies. SA doesn't start playing until next weekend.

Wouldn't that be a good thing then? They'd be unlikely to get it again and spread it?

That would depend on how the infected players got covid. If it was via community transmission then other members of the squad could also get it at any time. I am sure both squads would need to be tested before departure and on arrival to avoid an outbreak.

Sorta. The tail of the virus can mean postive tests later, even if not contagious. That could be a real fucker - team canned for no real reason. Like that Japanese guy, almost certainly infected in first lockdown period, tested positive on arrival in Japan months later

@Bones makes it tough to plan for that, I assume they'd sell it out in a few days (Auckland or Dunedin) but must be tough planning for both venues, more so EP, which you'd expect will be a sell out, but are people going to pay now after the last time EP was sold out?

Can they even sell right now for EP?

They can sell now, but I reckon they'll wait a fortnight. Tickets will go live straight after the 1pm announcement, Auckland if level 1 that weds, dunners if not. That gives ten days sales, long enough to sell out for sure

I've decided not to go. Gutted in some ways, but taking an older dude is too high risk, no matter how low the chances are. Just easier to avoid this year.

Roll on 2021, I'm done with this year

This was mentioned in the Stuff article:

Sydney’s Daily Telegraph reported the Wallabies would assemble in Sydney this week then fly to New Zealand next week, setting up in Christchurch, where the Government has assigned them hotel quarantine and training hubs for 14 days.

They will look to then set up a base in Queenstown before they fly in and out of Wellington and Auckland – if confirmed – for the games on October 11 and 18.

    this is a pipedream surely.

considering the bullshit with moving between states at the moment, surely bringing overseas football teams and granting them movement would be political suicide.

Feds i guess can claim they are doing their bit to restore normalcy, and it's the States' fault.

If the ABs are allowed in to Qld, and people can't see their dying dad, i would imagine public sentiment would move pretty sharply

Agree wholeheartedly with this. Even now, I'm unsure of the conditions being imposed on the All Blacks but they can travel to Qld when others can't and I'm assuming it's much less significant than a two week full quarantine. Meanwhile, my in-laws can't get to the GC to see their son, grandchildren, best friends and stay in their newly built home.

@shark cant you cross the border if your residence is in Qld? . Just have to quarantine.

All squads will do two weeks quarantine in a 'bubble' - the same thing the AFL and NRL have been doing.

The border is likely to be open by the time the RC kicks off.

As for public sentiment? They lost that months ago.

Yes cross state border travel is already happening in other sports

    I found the below

Travel is one of the trickiest issues, with journey between New South Wales and Queensland the greatest concern.

For interstate matches, those in the bubbles fly in and out on match days and generally don't have any contact with the public on those days.

Venues typically have designated clean zones and venue zones.

A clean zone is sanitised and locked down ahead of matches and is only open to squad members in the bubble and a few other essential staff.

Everyone entering the clean zone is temperature-tested and will be refused entry if a temperature above a nominated level is recorded.

Queensland has become the nation's sporting hub — is that really safe?

Queensland has become the nation's sporting hub — is that really safe?

If you're thinking all the sporting teams now based in Queensland are living by a different set of rules to the rest of us, you'd be right — but's that's not a bad thing.

Interesting that finish date is 12 December - that means Quarantine for Xmas for a lot of the ABs (some might get sent home early?)

I think they have cut a deal around returning quarantine so they won't be in a hotel over Christmas.

    Rugby in the cricket season....

rugby has been encroaching on the cricket season for years, particularly on the other side of the New Year, so inevitable they take a chunk of this side too 😉
