Just trained alongside the Sharks! Fark they are big'uns. Always interesting seeing how they train, lots of weighted plyometric stuff. A couple of props were doing drills. Very fast feet!!
-
What are our thoughts on 10? Is JGB our best choice moving forward? I tend to think he offers more than Smith but neither option is really super quality (yet). I think in time Smith could be but hopefully McClutchie is in next year (or - comes in for an injured player). Canes on paper still have a strong squad and good continuity from last year with lots of upsides in the forwards (our weakness since 2016).
-
Good looking team, my only issue is Prinsep at 8, shouldn’t even be in the 23 but the coaches seem to have a fixation with him. Tight five looks strong, good to see Aso at 13 and I’m happy that JGB gets another crack at 10.
I’m confident we will get the job done at home
before our bye next week. -

My mate had cafe Eis with em*, does that count?

I don't get this reshuffle of the backrow. Have they moved Evans to 7, so they can move Prinsep to 8 (he can't play openside) and give Fifita a starting spot at 6? Why not just drop Prinsep?
Kirifi needs to be on the bench to cover 7, and I can see why they don't start a rookie like Flanders in this game, but Flanders should have been on the bench (he and Fifita can both cover lock). Don't need Mitchell.
Agree with starting Aso, but they should have named Toala on the bench (unless he's injured, no info about that) instead of Proctor.
It's going to be a tough game against the Sharks. It's a pity Coles isn't starting. The rest protocols don't affect frontrowers as much as other players, because they are usually subbed around the 50 minute mark anyway.
-
@Stargazer logic is out the window when they see Prinsep as a starter, he seems to be a lock in the starting 15 which is creating issues elsewhere. Hopefully Flanders etc play well enough in coming weeks they have no choice but to drop Prinsep
Having Ardie back mid season will help too
-
I'm just hoping that Dane comes in and has a blinder. The guys will be tired, they last played Sunday midday, have travelled from NZ to SA to argh to NZ, sand are playing a team who've been here two weeks. So I think we need some bench impact and can't just play top 15 and hope the team hold on when replacements come on
-
@Stargazer I don't get the reasoning around the reshuffle of the backrow, Prinsep just doesn't cut it for me.
Questionable on Toala, Peter Umaga Jensen is probably higher than him in the pecking order and I would have preferred him on the bench over Proctor. We might see a Toala/Umaga-Jensen combo against the Sunwolves.
I think starting Aumua is a good thing, allows him to build up some form. If he can get back to his peak then he is someone that can turn games on their head.
-
@Machpants atleast we can empty the tank with the bye next week.
-
@Canes4life PU-J is as uncoordinated as a ping-pong ball. No doubt, Toala has much more talent, but yes, PU-J is 2 years older and has been in the squad longer (that shouldn't matter though).
-
@Crucial I dropped a few hints but I didn't even find out where they are staying!
lol but one player had messaged three female PTs at Les Mills seeing if they were keen on a date... obviously didn't think they'd compare notes ha ha, he was busted well before any of them took the bait
-
@Stargazer Why didn't Toala make the trip to South Africa then if he's more talented? I would have both Proctor and Umaga-Jensen before Toala, that guy looks like a midget.
-
@Canes4life I think I already answered that question in my two previous posts.
They probably didn't pick Toala because he's injured (we don't know) OR because he's a rookie.By the way, Toala is taller than Laumape and nobody will say Laumape shouldn't be selected because he's a midget.
-
@Stargazer yet I would gaurantee that if PUJ was from Hawkes Bay you would be tooting his trumpet. PUJ proved himself in the playoffs last year and no he isn’t uncoordinated - just look at his highlight reel.
Doesn’t really matter though, Laumape and Aso will hopefully cement themselves as the first choice combo this weekend.
-
@Canes4life You're wrong yet again. I wouldn't want PU-J anywhere near the Magpies, even if he was from HB.
