@No-Quarter Australia's fast bowlers are at least twice as good as New Zealand's in their own conditions and we'd just had a series with England playing on slow puddings. There's only so far mental conditioning and strategy can take you when you don't have the tools in your toolbox. If we want to be able to bat well in Aus then we need similar pitches here rather than the puddings which made Archer look gentle.
We also need those pitches to get a set of bowlers who can hurl it down at 140+ AND control their line and length. At the moment we have trundlers who don't know where the next ball is heading. What is Southee even trying to achieve these days?
Sure Kane should have finished that 3rd game off but it was only him taking to Bumrah (a rare event) that avoided another thrashing.
What I'm trying to point out in my rather grumpy way (I've been sick in bed a few days) is that India bowl well in the key moments. They bowl fast, just short of a length or slow bouncers or yorkers but all designed to make it tricky to hit when you are desperate to get bat on ball. It's the essence of T20 and India are better than NZ.

@No-Quarter Kane is a long way from being an excellent captain. And getting little help from the current coaching team
Almost won a Cricket World Cup though .... drew the final in fact. Whereas BMAC choked badly when he had his chance.
We always complain when it is Sri Lanka and Bangladesh here in our summer but we're a lot better at cricket in those summers.

@KiwiPie he is probably quite a good ODI captain but he is not a good t20 captain. Southee said it was a communal decision to have him bowl the super over. If so, that means Williamson had some input into the decision which was terrible decision, Southee should never bowl a super over again, in fact I'm not even sure he should be in the team when everyone is fully fit.
The t20 has issues that begin with squad selection which means we have problems before we even go into the game. We should not be playing t20 with five specialist bowlers.
Also they need to mix up the bowling more by using more bowlers. It was obvious last night that slow bowling was the way to go but once the spinners were done we went back to pace. Why not try Munro or even Bruce?

Why is Southee our go to death bowler? He's chucking down medium pace half volleys which are being properly dispatched.
His economy rate was twice as bad as the next worst BCs bowler. #garysteadout

There's some strange behaviour manifesting in this nz cricket team and it's got nothing to do with their individual cricket skills.
There's a mindset and assertiveness problem with this team since the world cup.
".
This team is so meek and apparently confused. From player selections, to batting orders, to monumental batting collapses, to sub standard fielding, to the fact that we've been soundly done over in our last 8 fricken games, ( get fucked, losing the Hamilton game was every bit as useless as the Sydney game).
This is a hell of a fall in performance- win loss record runs secondary to the manner of the losses- we've retarded our progress astonishingly.
This team is not in good health
It's not obvious where the problem is but the decision making and leadership personnel needs a serious look. There is enough cricket skill to suggest that we haven't suddenly exposed some foundational weaknesses in the system but there's a whole heap of adequately skilled international cricketers playing as badly as you could imagine, given their calibre and recent results.

@canefan yep, but if you're fair dinkum you gotta look equally at Kane and Gav and others.
Dare it be said but we're missing a Baz swagger, or at least a "spin it wide" mentality. The Aussies will prosper with Steve Smith just batting, I wish we could afford Kane the same luxury. But we can't.

Here's a great example of flawed cricket thinking, to even a club amateur:
You want Rossco to face as many balls as possible. There's just no way around it. If he faces the most balls, we win, ( pretty much). Ok, let's not expose him to a new ball, given our glorious opening partnership habits, so don't bat him in the top 3.
But all that means, is he's 4 and that's concrete. No cute little " left hand right hand combo", no "let's try slinky up there because he hits the best golf ball in the team", no FUCKEN putting Tom fucking Bruce, still wearing international cricket nappies, in before the most game playing legend we've got and have ever had!
You see it's this departure, and it's frequency from fundamental cricket notions that's got me very bothered at the moment
It's never a good cricket decision to have Bruce above Ross, never. Any team, anywhere.
Scary that these type of calls are obviously winning out in the meetings
