Craig McMillan did a pretty good job as the batting coach (or had better luck with his opposition). Playing records are irrelevant to coaching ability. However, the players on field performance does raise questions about the coaching.

@mariner4life Macca was our batting coach for five years under Hesson. The man was a coaching genius!
And he had a test batting average of 38.5. Worthy!

With the "just clipping" and umpires call bullshit, you get a situation where your outcome is now dependent on who reviews. If that's given not out, and the Aussies review, it stays not out. Same delivery, two different outcomes. It should be either out, or not out

"Umpires call" is bullshit. They get one look at full speed. LBW is where DRS should be used, but take the original decision out of it, use the half ball measurement to eliminate ball tracking minor discrepancies and the decision is the 3rd umpire's who has all of the benefits of slow mo and tech.
When you get a shithead like Erasmus giving the benefit to the bowler (mostly Aussies this time around) it goes wrong.
None of that would have changed any results, given that we have been shit, but it does show flaws in the system. Thanks Marais.

But on the two recent Erasmus LBW decisions, the ball was hitting the stumps according to the technology. Sure it was the outside of the leg stump, but hitting is hitting.
Under the system you are proposing, why have umpires on the field at all? You can just appeal to Hawkeye who will tell you whether it was out or not.
The DRS system was introduced to eliminate the howler. And I think on the whole the system works pretty well. You can argue both calls by Erasmus, but you certainly can't say either is a howler. Stiff shit for the Kiwis but nobody can claim they have been robbed.

They still have to make the call. Every appeal would take forever.
I have said several times it is after a DRS review that umpires call becomes contentious. They don't have the benefit of the replays, etc. AFTER it goes to DRS then there is no "umpires call" from on field, it is done by the 3rd umpire and the technology and must be 1/2 ball to eliminate any ball tracking errors. -

It may be a millimetre away from a howler, but it's still not a howler. The ball was likely clipping the stumps. If the NZ bats don't like it they should use their bat next time instead.
And the 'nice guys' thing is pretty ludicrous. I get that you are all frustrated about the shellackings you have copped, but that theory does not have much logical foundation.
