The assistant I most want to change is McLeod. I have nothing against him but under his expertise, the All Blacks' defence looked way too passive, not up to the standards shown by England or South Africa. I'd like to see Wayne Smith back in the assistants' team, particularly if Robertson is named as he would bring his great experience.

If they are hell bent on picking Fozz, getting Robertson in as the heir apparent to learn the management secrets, with Smith back as a steady hand on the shoulder would quell my anxiety a little

thing is, if Wayne Smith was in on anyones team, the media would surely have got wind of it.

But agree our defence under McLeod has been less than ideal, at times very good but at others, poor, seemingly unable to adjust and respond to a quick off-load game.

    Foster.

I would prefer they didn't make a mistake, but if they are going to at least make sure it isn't a mistake they've made before. We know it is too early for Robertson like it was for Smith and Mitchell/Deans.

By no means is that an endorsement of the past four years, far from it.

We know Robertson isn't ready just as much as we know Foster hasn't improved as a head coach from the chiefs days. At least Razor's won something.
Foster as Robertson's assistant might work, but so far we have no evidence that when Foster has the final say, good stuff happens.

Unless they have a relationship with a bit of trust and knowledge about each other’s areas of strength and weakness, I don’t want to see a Foz/Razor (ie, Grizz/Hart) combo just because it would quell the fan/media uprising.

If one wants to be part of the team come what may, then that’s different, but I think each should be evaluated on their ability to get the best team together and their coaching record.

Yeah I agree 100%. I reckon Rennie in Oz will get lumped with Ozzie assistants he is less than 100% happy with, possibly.

Apparently he agreed to the assistants which would be a good idea from the ARU; raising local competence. From his perspective I guess he'd want final say from a pool.

Foster to take over as Crusaders coach. If he's all that, like Steve and the NZRU would have us believe, then the titles will keep coming.

@voodoo who’s your pick for crusaders then. He’s back living in Christchurch. Makes sense

@chchfanatic Anyone but! He's a disaster mate. Has such a shocker with the Tahs, not just performance-wise, but internal management. Poor pre-season prep, awful player retention and succession, fcked the team around with his plans (demanded extension only to walk out on them once the assistants had made other plans). He is by all accounts a nice guy, but he is not a HC

I have zero idea of the viable alternatives for the Saders, but you really don't want him
