All Black Coach - Ian Foster

I think the whole process is for show. Given the way that the 'insiders' have been talking, Hansen, Wayne Smith, Beauden Barrett etc, I suspect that the NZR board decided years ago that Ian Foster was going to replace Steve Hansen. Had we won the RWC this would have been a much easier process for them, but given our spectacular loss to England NZR now needs to appear to be paying lip service to a proper recruitment process. The fact that they hilariously approached 26 candidates to apply is a testament to this. But disappointment in NZ over the semi final loss in Yokohama will soon die down, and just before Christmas, during the height of cricket season, NZR will quietly announce that Ian Foster will take over for the next four years. Probably 8 years, the way recent trends have gone. And he will be the least deserving or credentialed AB head coach in living memory.
This is close to the biggest load of bollocks posted on the sports boards in ages. Totally smacks of getting excuses in early if your golden boy doesn't get appointed.
Strange comment. I want Scott Robertson to stay at the Crusaders for 2-3 years. At the very least for next year when we have a new coaching team and so many new/inexperienced players.
Btw, you don't think Steve Hansen is a NZR 'insider'? Alongside Steve Tew you don't get more of an insider.

Hansen's comments about Foster were made when he was in his 16th year coaching the AB's. That makes him an Insider in my books.

Your logic is screwed.
So Hansen is party to inside knowledge that a group of people that are no longer working at NZR will be able to dictate to their replacements that they will select Foster when Hansen retires.
Yes, Hansen WAS an insider. He isn't any longer and his mate Tew has also gone.I'm not saying that the board is going to make the correct decision and not make mistakes but none of your reasoning as to why Foster will get the job stands up to scrutiny.
If he gets the job it will be because he has convinced them (rightly or wrongly) that he can pick up and continue to progress the team in the required direction. He has 'inside running' as an incumbent, but that it. It is more likely to count against him as for him. -

With that mullet, I'd rather not...
Ardie would have been out on his ear too

I was goggle-eyed, I tell you.

@dogmeat I hadn't thought of wearing a bow tie to the interview.
A new suit though? I've still got a Hallensteins one from 1990 that I can squeeze into.
Years ago when I worked in Wellington we had a guy who used to fly into meetings with the big bosses, who used to adopt this policy. When you met him in the region in his normal clothes he looked fine - but, for wellington he thought he needed his old polyester suit.
When pay assessment time came around we concluded that Jack had a 10 grand suit, because that was what it cost him!

He does make some good points. They didn't know who their best team was, the gameplan was flawed. Of course he has zero say in the decision

I've not read the article but his plan to leave after initial hand over post the '15 exodus was the right one. I can't remember if he was just Lions initially then leave or just a year? But either would've been right IMO
I do wonder if he was asked to stay on though. At the point in time Foster was the only likely candidate with a demanding CV and/or available.

IIRC it felt like he was asked to stay, and that he kind of knew it was probably time to go. In fairness, they were one poor selection and flawed game plan away from being threepeat finalists

Moffet made a dogs breakfast of welsh rugby so a pinch of salt. There are all of a sudden a lot of wise after the fact commentators putting in their 2c.

Moffat been doing the rounds, also speaking on RS

Jamie Joseph has extended his contract with Japan until 2023.
Fuck, that is odd, I really thought he would have preferred the AB's gig over the Yen. Surprised he didn't put Japan on hold until after the AB's was announced. Maybe he knows something we don't or perhaps Japan gave him an ultimatum. Tony Brown seemed pretty keen on the AB's.

I suspect that's where the Ferald article came from. Like the Wayne Smith articles last week.
NZH and RS both part of NZME
