Cane would have made a difference.
Also think he adds a lot in the leadership department - sadly lacking today.
Yeah, it's utter BS to pretend Cane wouldn't have made a difference when starting even if the result stayed the same - we have a much better chance of a win if he starts.
Agreed.
But S Barrett is the fall guy for a very shit Read performance and captaincy.
Unfair IMHO.

I honestly don’t think it was a case of NZ not being “hungry” enough.
England simply didn’t allow you to play. They were that good on the night.I strongly disagree. We had opportunities to just try and get territory, then from there, try to build pressure - get penalties - and try to break them down. Instead, with every piece of possession we got, we took terrible options, usually kicking it straight back to them. Had we buckled down after the first try, and said, fuck it, let's just play it in their half, we'd have put ourselves in the position to have challenged. But we never put them under any pressure - in their half - and the only time we did, we got a lucky try. I'm fucked if I know who was running things out there, but whoever it was shouldn't wear a black jersey again, And if the do, I hope they have nightmares about this game. We got fucking hammered .
Fair enough comment. There were some poor options taken. But I see that in the context of England putting so much pressure on the ABs.

No, the coaches are the fall guys for selecting Barrett - if you read my earlier post (and the one before the game) I note that it completely threw out the balance of the loose forwards trio. I even said Barrett had a decent game.

Excellent point.
I think Read has been a great All Black, but he is no legend - his five missed tackles (ESPN stats) tell the story of a guy who is either injured or past it. If he was amazing last week against a shit Ireland, how can he be amazing - with those stats - against England? He ran OK (25 metres off of 8 runs), but his captaincy tonight was pretty appalling - he and the team looked lost. He's been surviving on being McCaw's successor and tonight showed that it's all for shit. We were under pressure., but this wasn't 2011 8-7, this was a hammering, and he was front and center missing tackles.

Don’t be too hard on your blokes. They tried as hard as they could. The difficulty with being consistently the best team in the world is that it feels doubly crap when you lose...although, how would I know.
PS good to see you fellas
Another blast from the past, good to see you too.
As I explained to my son, fans are allowed to be happy for their team. Sucks for us, but that’s sport.

Well skimmed the thread, seems I am on a different thought pattern than most.
FUCK!! I found that extremely frustrating. It was such odd play and reminded me of the Lions series - we seemed to constantly efficiently create space only to ignore it - not throwing the last pass, cutting back in, running down the sideline isolated. Why?
Don't get me wrong, England played well, but we continually sabotaged ourselves and didn't fire a shot.
Apart from super Ardie - what the fuck were the Canes playing at? That Jordie fuck up was so predictable. Coles why not go for a jaunt down the sideline and run away from your support? Beauds, yeah mate just kick it in any old direction, who cares about the guys in space. TJ, we're behind on the scoreboard so when you get on, just pick up the ball and jog slowly sideways from the ruck, then throw a loopy one. Cool.
Just such an odd game, we did that charge them up around the ruck with pick and go's and made eeeeasy metres, it was leading to a try. So yeah, fuck that, we'll do it for one tiny period of play and then shelve it for another day that's more important.
GRRRRR.
Congrats England. My feed is full of Kiwis saying that. And English saying that. Go figure.

I can't argue with that. They were excellent. The reaction of our players to their strategy and tactics, was, fucking pathetic. For a team that had (we hoped) supposedly tried different tactics to get ready for this world cup, they were not better (in fact worse) than the team that got run over by Lions two years ago.
-
- Our tight five couldn't get front foot ball or make enough dominant tackles.
- Our loose forwards couldn't get to the breakdown quick enough.
- Our lineout got dominated despite having more genuine options.
- Our backline with that sort of ball, couldn't penetrate and we too often passed too deep meaning we couldn't get over the advantage line.
- Then we made stupid errors, throwing the ball away when we weren't getting bundled into touch.
And yet for all that, England still couldn't score another try. It puts their quarter final into some perspective.
I think that's two quarter finals in a row we've expended tremendous energy fighting a boogeyman in our own minds. A terrible, disinterested France in 2015 and then Ireland four years later. If there's a flat track bully in world rugby, it's got to be the All Blacks. Once we have dominance, no team puts the boot on the throat like we do.

That was literally me walking home from the stadium, taking the long lonely road through dodgy districts to avoid the fucking “swing low”.
And now that you remind me, standing in this lovely little polite japanese standing bar, watching a replay of the last 20 minutes....

That's so sad, but seems pretty true.
Our performance seems to support it - get on top of us early and we won't show any resilience to come back and beat you.
-
@antipodean Yeah, the coaches got really worked up about the defeat against Ireland without seeming to twig that it was the tough test against England the week before they made them knackered against Ireland.

A bit creepy as I mentioned @The-Eagle earlier in my "gloaters" comment and will not be surprised to see Dodge either.
We were done rugby wise but funny how people show up again...just saying.

@ACT-Crusader Aplogies re Eddies Brumbie exact years. Hansen partly culpable in my book but even then Eng looked remarkably well coached. Who out of today’s Eng team make a world 15 head and shoulders above the rest? Maybe one or 2 for me.....

I'll say this - Itoje finally stepped up in my eyes to be the player he's long been touted to be. He was superb. So were the two young flankers.
