France adapted better to the Ref than we did.
France adapted better to the lack of a ref than we did.
McCaw's captaincy, or lack of, was also a key factor. He was anything but Mr Cool, calm and collected in that game.
yep. who can forget the frogs scoring and the AB's being in a huddle and richie just off to the side..
who else should have been captain in that team though?Tana (the player and captain, not the coach - Blues fans) should have held on to the RWC, I'm convinced that in that alternate timeline we win.
The same Tana that was showing major signs in the back end of 2004 and into 2005 that he had slowed significantly?
Can you keep your alternate Cantab facts out of this please? I'm trying to get a senior player on the field who'll get the team to set for a drop goal at some stage.
Heading into the 2007 RWC Aaron Mauger had made the most drop goals of any player in the squad and yet he was sitting in the stands for the QF. Shocker....
Would his captain have let him kick a drop goal?
Would 3 points have won us the game if we didn't have our best attacking player on the field?
Would he have missed frequently like Mehrts did in 1995?The player on the field didn't matter, it was the decision not to set for one that was the issue.
Haha, of course the player on the field matters. He can set himself up quite easily. It’s pretty easy to call a play from 1st 5 and organise the troops.

Really want Aussie to get up for this one Perth-style, think England will be a tough SF opponent (if we beat Ire) if they're high on confidence from winning well.
I just want all our Southern neighbors to beat the UK teams. And of course I think we have a better chance against Aus than England. I'd love to see them pull out a Perth game.
What about Ireland? You didn't mention them.....just the UK teams....🤔
Aren't Ireland part of the Uk?
No. They are the republic of Ireland
You appear to have fallen into a sarchasm
To be fair, the Ireland rugby team also represents Northern Ireland don't they? So double fail.
Ireland IS part of the British Isles.
Gosh, who knew?
They don't like being reminded. And so British Lions is right, but it has to be British & Irish Lions.

I hear they have some great stadiums in the capital.

@taniwharugby I tried to read it but couldn't make any sense of the first couple of paragraphs and lost interest.

It all comes downv to the way the cards fall, IMO
I reckon there will be a quarter final where a red card decides and ruins the game , the way the sport is going , it’s odds on .
Let’s hope it isn’t ours
As things stand, I think there will be a knock out game where a red card decides it - hopefully it is at the QF stage and doesn't alter the result but allows the IRB to re-think there position on this for a few weeks, maybe suspend it for a few weeks before re-instating something very similar and giving players/refs/fans 4 years to get used to.
As I see it, the likely semis/finals are going to be close games and a red card in the first 60 minutes would very likely decide them.

Maybe in your alternate universe where all the senior players change their mind and decide to go for a drop goal just because Mauger is on the field.

Pakman was at Dublin 1991, Ellis Park 1995, Twickenham 1999, Sydney 2003 and Cardiff 2007. He's watching on Sky.
Irish have no chance.
Just in case, I hope you will be sitting in an appropriate spot to enjoy the match

And hopefully karma comes to play. After all, Oirish whinging after Henshaw spun uncontrollably into Cane’s shoulder has helped bring about the current lottery.

This is quality.
Side that has no knockout wins thinks NZ are mentally weak. Lads, you're 12 years too late.
That was such a painful read. They even pulled out the whole Beaver-penalty-not-really-going-over-in-2011 thing.
