Is there a source for Barnes being the referee?

He has a 6-10 record the ABs since Cardiff. Not particularly interested in his fare.

As @Chris-B asks what does 6-10 mean?

TBH I'd prefer him to the Frenchies. Less likely to do something crazy, though he does have a habit of pulling a howler out of the bag after being very good.

@rotated What does your 6-10 mean? We've lost 6 times with him reffing?

    Six losses to ten wins.

    Losses:
    France @ Cardiff 2007
    Australia @ Brisbane 2011
    South Africa @ Joburg 2014
    Australia @ Sydney 2015
    Australia @ Brisbane 2017
    Ireland @ Dublin 2018

    Wins
    Scotland @ Edinburgh 2008
    Ireland @ New Plymouth 2010
    France @ Auckland 2014
    Wales @ Cardiff 2014
    Argentina @ London 2015
    Wales @ Auckland 2016
    France @ Paris 2016
    Australia @ Sydney 2017
    Wales @ Cardiff 2017
    Australia @ Auckland 2018

In about three quarters of those wins the ABs trailed at half time or led by less than a penalty. Outside of McCaw or Carter not being on the team sheet I doubt there has been a bigger game changer on the AB winning record post 2007.

Weather forecast looks shit. Is this a negative for us? The game slowing down will benefit the Irish but we are a pretty decent wet weather team as well.

Might want to look at the stats of Nigel Owens instead - he's the ref.

    We avoid Barnes and Garces.

No complaints with Nigel Owens officiating of the All Blacks to date.

No need - he is a good ref.

We also get Graham Hughes as TMO - he's excellent IMO. As good as Skeen is bad.

Wasn't Owens in charge against SA in SA when they bypassed protocol on a try decision when it screened at the ground?

    That was Clancy.

Owens had the Wellington test last year and one of the tests with Donald at 10 in 2009. Maybe one more Bledisloe loss in there somewhere?

Clancy, the Irishman with the French name? Figures

Nigel is a good appointment for us as far as I’m concerned,

He is one that tends to allow the game to flow more than most imo , I couldn’t be happier with that bit of news

    That would be Clancě.

Can't get much more Irish than Clancy, except maybe O'Clancy.

Alain Rolland is the Irish ref with a French name.

That's an epic fail on my part. I'll just sit in the corner and let the grown ups talk

Gotta feel for Aki (or anyone that finds themselves in a similar position) all the work to get to this, then a momentary lapse and your dreams are gone!

That plus Henshaw would have been selected for the next three games so Aki gets an extra 3 weeks off after the tournament too!

I haven't been hugely impressed with Owens this world cup. If he keeps on as he has been going, Ireland will have a huge leeway at the tackle, breakdown, ruck, maul.

@Bones at least he is more likely to be consistent. Hopefully he can step it up policing that stuff. Something for Shag to discuss pre game...

The thing being, it requires an adjustment for us. It's Ireland's bread and butter...
