RWC: All Blacks v South Africa (Pool B)

Makes you wonder what our backline would have been like if DMac hadn't gotten injured...his injury opened the door for Mounga

@Yeetyaah oh I'm not questioning who it is, TBH I think numerous combos of SBW/Crotty/ALB/Goodhue exist and work, but I dont think they have played alot together have they Crotty/ALB, and was prepared for ABW/Crotty
Another combo though, which is probably my main concern.
Kudos to Napier Herald! My hunch, without seeing any reports, is that Goodhue not 100%. And if SBW also iffy the RWC Final ploy of bringing him off the bench makes sense. Gives two options if change made.
Means we lack some heft so De Allandre will need careful attention.

Well ... not my pick 11, 12, 13, 14 ... but still good. Yes, still good.
Would have gone Pat T to start. But see the rationale.
Trouble for my preferred wingers is they both play 11.
Ball players not line smashers at 12, 13.
Can't at least one of Bridge/Ioane play 14?

@Bones Yes I see Frizell coming on for Cane too. I see the thinking with Todd there but personally prefer having the bigger man on the bench.
Tuipulotu is a very good bench option, always has been. It virtually been that last test against the Aussies where he showed what he's capable of. I prefer him over Scott Barrett in most aspects but Barrett is probably slightly more reliable come lineout time so yeah, can see why Barrett is starting. Happy to see Patty come on with 20-25 to go though.
Quite interesting that after the three 7s malarky we're back to two in the 23. What's the latest weather report?

Not even the media can spell Riekoβs name right.

Missed this: Radiosport played a clip from the press conference saying that Matt Todd has a shoulder injury - could have played in a knock out match, but they're not risking him for this.

Yeah yeah, sure he did.
Only the first game and Frizell already gets his chance to start tearing it up. Who would've thought? π
To paraphrase Ramsay Bolton, "If you think that (I think) this (playing a bunch of midgets) has happy ending, you haven't been paying attention"!

Another midfield candidate, Jack Goodhue, has recovered from a hamstring injury but Hansen said delaying his return "wouldn't do him any harm". Still tender?

Up the airy mountain, down the rushy glen
We may not be a winnin'
If we've too many little men
Wee folk, good folk
Trooping all together
Black jersey, black socks
And a white ferny feather.I like having a big loosie like Frizell - at least on the bench!

DMac's introduction was the start of the dual playmaker gameplan so I think they would have persevered with that combo. Hansen confirmed last night on Getting Grilled with Marshy that they had to reassess the selections once he was injured. DMac was also their 3rd halfback cover for the RWC.
-
So, with the team named, what are we expecting with the replacements plan? Assuming no injuries and a close game, what would Hansons ideal plan be?
- Taylor for Coles at 60mins
- Propsπ€·ββοΈ
- Tui for Barrett after 50
- Frizell only if necessary
- TJ at 65
- SBW after 60 for Crotty
- Then the interesting one is BS. Does he go to FB and BB to Wing? Seems a waste of BB. But bringing BS onto the wing for 20 seems a bit pointless unless SR or GB is having a shocker. Or do they move RM to wing and BB to 10 to accommodate BS at 15? Or is BS really only seen as cover rather than impact in this side?
