@Rapido I would have preferred if a team wins in Golden Point they get only 3 pts and the losing team gets 1 pt. This means the winning team gains an extra point while the losing team loses a point (based on each team usually getting 2 pts from a draw).
Yeah, I'm not defending it.
I hate golden point enough that I'm not bothered reading further into the allocations. But I was piqued by the '1 point for turning up', so looked at that.BTW, in the 1995 RWC, I think. The point structure was 3 for a wins, 2 for a draw, 1 for 'playing'. Japan got a point in their 17-145 loss to NZ. So lame.

I already posted an article about this in the Super Rugby 2021 thread, but I'm posting this here, because it's already affecting the Jaguares this year. Sorry for the bad English translation; blame Google.
Virtual media conference
With the presence of more than 80 journalists, the Argentine Rugby Union held a virtual press conference to report on the situation of our sport in the country in this context of pandemic; provide news regarding local and international competition, the commitments of Los Pumas, Jaguares and Los Pumas 7s and some announcements regarding the internal structure of the UAR.
The following participated as authorities:
Marcelo Rodríguez - President of UAR.
Fernando Rizzi - Secretary of UAR and member of the Board of Jaguars.
Carlos Barbieri - UAR Treasurer.
Sol Iglesias - General Manager of UAR
Francisco Rubio - High Performance Manager of the UAR.
Mario Ledesma - Head Coach of Los Pumas.
Gonzalo Quesada - Head Coach of Jaguares.
Santiago Gómez Cora - Head Coach of Los Pumas 7s.Marcelo Rodríguez's statements
“These are difficult times for rugby worldwide and in Argentina. There is anxiety and few confirmations, but we want to deal with all the issues and handle the information with transparency ”.
“The priority is to work to have the best possible international competition. Jaguars will continue to exist, but we have to see under what circumstances.
"The Rugby Championship could be feasible. We imagine a scenario where it moves on the calendar. No border crossing and probably concentrated in Australia during October and November ”.
“The first steps for the return of rugby in Argentina is likely to be with local competitions in each of the unions. Today it is quite conflictive to cross from one province to another.
Fernando Rizzi statements
“Until before the quarantine, there was a negotiation to extend until 2030 with our Sanzaar partners. The link is intact and we are looking at how to establish competencies. Perhaps there will be a transition period in 2021. "
Mario Ledesma's statements
"One of the possibilities to return to training is to make a health bubble in a province. But we will do it according to the matches and the competition. ”
“Today we have three groups: some training in apartments, others in houses with gardens and the third group in some provinces that can already run on the pitch. The idea in the first phase is to equalize the physical condition and from there do a preseason ”.
Gonzalo Quesada's statements
"From the UAR I had a very transparent and respectful communication about the situation around Jaguares."
«It is difficult for me to speak, it is not what I imagined. I am still convinced that the best decision in my coaching career was to have agreed to return to Argentina. I wanted this to mark my life and my career, and it was what happened ».
Statement by Santiago Gómez Cora
“The intention is to go to an area that has fewer cases or to a country abroad. But I am very happy that the pandemic gave us more time to connect and work together with all the coaches of those selected. "
"Being able to train with Los Pumas would be spectacular, isolating ourselves and doing a preseason all together, within the framework of isolation."
Francisco Rubio's statements
«On the departure of Germán (Fernández) we get the feeling that it is a great opportunity for him. We are convinced by the ability he has and by the great person he is, that he will do very well there. We are already anxious for him to return to give us all that capacity he has and empower us when he has to return »
“But we are sure that none of us is essential in any area because we know that there will always be someone who will raise the flag and continue to carry it forward. If Germán continues to grow, we will all continue to grow because he is a person who will give us feedback.

Gonzalo Quesada deja su cargo en JaguaresGonzalo Quesada leaves his post at Jaguares
Friday June 5, 2020The Argentine Rugby Union announced this afternoon that Gonzalo Quesada will not continue to be the Head Coach of Jaguares. The coach will return to France to continue his career at the Stade Francais in Paris.
His move to the forefront of the Argentine franchise was marked by the historic classification to the Super Rugby final in 2019. Between that season and what was played in 2020, he led 26 games with 16 wins, 9 losses and a draw, after Sanzaar will cancel the match with Highlanders.
The team scored 90 tries, with an average of more than three tries per game, and received 67. The one who scored the most was Julián Montoya, with nine, as well as who played the most times during the Quesada cycle: 25 games. He was absent only once.
Statements:
Gonzalo Quesada
«It is difficult for me to speak, it is not what I imagined. I am still convinced that the best decision in my coaching career was to have agreed to return to Argentina. I wanted this to mark my life and my career, and it was what happened ».
«I had an incredible group of players, with a staff of gigantic professionalism. We made Casa Jaguares a reality. Even Vélez was becoming more beautiful ».
"From the UAR I had a very transparent and respectful communication about the situation around Jaguares, since naturally we were not going to have competition this year."
«It is a nice challenge to return to a club like Stade Francais where I experienced very strong things. But there is also sadness because Jaguares was the place where I wanted to be ».
"Jaguars will continue to exist and the doors are open to return."
Marcelo Rodríguez (President of the UAR)
“Quesada received a proposal from Europe and sat down to speak to the UAR on very good terms. He is very respectful.
"We understand that it is a concrete possibility and in the face of the uncertainty of Jaguares in the remainder of 2020 and 2021, it was important to consider what he was proposing. Gonzalo will stop being part of the team from July 1 ».
“We have let him know that we are looking forward to his return soon. Gonzalo has the UAR doors open to return, and just as we went looking for him, today he has the opportunity to return. We hope to have you again soon in Argentina and we wish you a lot of success ».

Friday June 5, 2020After the announcement of the departure of Gonzalo Quesada as Head Coach of the team, the president of the UAR Marcelo Rodríguez, referred to the continuity of the team.
“The priority is to work to have the best possible international competition. Jaguars will continue to exist, but we have to see under what circumstances. During 2020 he will not compete again, we believe that this is irreversible ”.
For his part, the secretary of the UAR and member of the Board of Jaguars, Fernando Rizzi, explained the relationship with SANZAAR: "We had been working with SANZAAR in the renewal of contracts, until COVID-19 appeared when a cycle ended and Another started until 2025. Now everything is on standby. Possibly take 2021 as the transition year and then negotiate again and change the cycles. There is no breakdown in our relationship with SANZAAR and we continue to work with them. The link is intact.

@Bones who?
Tom Taylor - son of Warwick. Classy, could have done well, but coincided with a heap of 10s in Canterbury

@Hooroo I'd have thought moving to 5pm instead of the earlier k/o means it wont clash with club footy, and probably be good for clubs to keep people in club rooms for an hour or 2 longer to watch could be a factor too

In Australia?

@taniwharugby said in Super Rugby 2020:
@Hooroo no NZ...I mean they get more eyeballs if people can watch thier club play and then super rugby...probably not the main driver, but surely a factor?
That doesn't help NZRU though. They can sell rights to Aussie

@taniwharugby said in Super Rugby 2020:
@Hooroo well it helps NZ Grass roots rugby, so helps NZR??
But if it helps get a few more $$$ from Aussie punters to watch...
Can't look that far ahead at the moment. This is a micky mouse comp that needs to generate as much cash as possible.

I fondly recall a R1 (?) NPC game maybe around 2014 which he absolutely dominated. Like dominated so hard that it made Richie Mo'unga dominating NPC finals looks like a training camp for game domination.
I'd have him back, for sure.
He was a 10-come-12 who was poorly used predominantly at FB by Blackadder where he was just pedestrian really. Those with rose-coloured glasses would say it was his own fault and he should have moved. But where to? In his era the Chiefs had AC, Highlanders had Sopoaga and Hurricanes had BB. The Blues had been suggested but who honestly believes the Blues would have been good for Taylor, and - less so - Taylor good for the Blues?
