@canefan Can't see things opening up internationally in the immediate future, so I think an NZ Mini-Series is the answer.
Only possible until a player tests positive. Then hwo do you continue it?
This looks like it's going to have some real legs I fear
If all sports are going to be canned - we'll have to start National Service weekends, where everyone gets out and picks up rubbish, etc.
Otherwise what is the populace going to do at weekends? Hang around in shopping malls?
Yeah, and talk bollocks on the internet. It'd be a disaster!
If this gets into the community at large, then gatherings (like even kids sports) could be canned. I am not sure we're appreciating quite how big this could be, and how much it will effect things.

Waiting until the Malls fill up with Meanderthals and locking the doors could be a good idea

A Possibles Vs Probables trial series and North South games could happen if Super Rugby is completely canned.
If it is long term travel restrictions a early start to Mitre Ten Provincial rugby with All Blacks available would be cool.
Premier club rugby could be a good watch as well.

Imagine Mitre 10 cup just like the old NPC days, where all the ABs and fringe players front up!

I love the idea of a replacement mitre 10 esque comp to fill the gap, but it's also going to get scuppered if/when we start to get community transmission. If one player is positive it would be almost impossible for every other player not to get it too.
Maybe super touch rugby?

This probably isn't the place for this, but too lazy to look elsewhere for where to put it... (mods move if needed)
Does anyone think that if the risk of infection is high for pro rugby players, is it just as high for club players?
Any word or talk of club rugby, or any amateur sports for that matter being called off?Not trying to be funny here, it's a legit question....

@Gunner I think one of the issues is that a pro sports team is bigger than just the playing squad - and having a group that size, especially where there is contact as part of the sport/training/rehab etc, makes them a bigger vehicle for spreading stuff. Let alone any formal or informal fan contact, sponsor stuff, or other events.
I think non-pro sports environments are likely treated like gatherings, although you know that there will be much more physical contact during the sporting content within rugby/league/7s/9s than some other sports.
-
@Gunner I'm not sure the risk of infection for pro sports players (playing within NZ) is much higher than for the average Joe setting off to the office or school.
Now that the international travel drawbridge has been pulled up, I think we have to wait for a week or 10 days and see whether we've been lucky enough to keep it out of the general population. If we have, then I don't see why we can't return to a fair degree of normality.
If we haven't, well, we'll have to see what next.
