Winning a WC without winning the final. Has that ever happened in any other sport? Just seems insane.

Technically the rules were known in advance but they are silly rules. 2 draws - should have been another super over at least.

Deciding a WC on who hit the most boundaries is pretty bloody absurd.

Agreed. It should have come down to best finish in round robin (which was also England).

Worst would be if it was that deflection that got them ahead by one! 🙂

Yeah we were fortunate to be there and unfortunate not to win it.

Proud of the Black Caps. Beaten by a bizarre format.

    Congratulations to England. Enjoy!

Shame not to win, but there is the Rugby World Cup coming up to unleash our terrible vengeance.....

There’s a World Cup in rugby as well?

    Great.

The Aussie media are going to have fun with this England win since it was a draw.

Both teams scored the same amount of runs twice but one team scored those runs in a different way so they are the champions of the world as opposed to the other team that chose to score said runs in a different way but reaching the same score. Nice.

Well that's bloody disappointing. So many clutch moments went against us, any one of which would have won us the game. Can't help but feel we've missed a golden opportunity to win a WC which we won't get again for a long time.

Proud of the way the guys played. The way they never gave up despite lady luck being firmly against them was nothing short of incredible. Wonderful game overall but ending in a tie is a pretty crap way to finish.

Congrats to England. Managed to play well under immense pressure at home, so credit where its due.

@Yeahtheboys oh so I thought England won because they were higher on the ladder... obviously not the case.

    What was the criteria?

If it wasn't boundaries it should have been qualifying points or who beat who. I guess at least that rule relates to the game. But who the F is going out to get more boundaries just in case it comes into play!!

It's a shit way to lose a knife edge battle

Why not on number of wickets? Just seems so arbitrary.

Do we blame Santner for ducking the last ball instead of swinging his bat at it?

In all honesty, I don't think we could have done much more. It was almost as if they were going to win no matter what. The stars aligned for them. The deflection of Stokes' bat is the most bizarre thing to ever happen on a a cricket field. When that happened, I knew it wasn't going to be our day.
