or other players by the scruff of the neck and lead the way. I am hoping that will come as he gets older. Anyone have any insights on his personality? Has he shown leadership through the age grades?
he was Captain of the NZ U20 side wasnt he?
I expect maybe it is an age thing, confidence in amongst all the older guys and with Crotty 'leading' the backline? But still, you'd hope he would be able to step up when needed.
Hopefully saders will be working on the JG-Ennor mid-field in anticipation of no Crotty, because the defensive alignment and even comms was poor.

@SammyC agree re Crotty going off. I am a big fan of Goodhue but if I have one criticism of him it is at this stage of his career he seems to be just a role player, a very good one, but I haven't seen him take a game or other players by the scruff of the neck and lead the way. I am hoping that will come as he gets older. Anyone have any insights on his personality? Has he shown leadership through the age grades?
Brad Mooar told me he's a future long term Crusaders captain.
Agree tho, we look a bit lost on defense with him at 12 and Ennor at 13.
-
I'm a fan of Crotty but he's like bloody glass. Who would bet money on him getting through the RWC unscathed? I would bet money on him breaking in the group games.
-
@Rancid-Schnitzel well it is very likely to be SBW or Crotty in at 12, possibly 12/13, so, yea
-
@SammyC Razor also mentioned him being a future leader when Goodhue re-signed so they must see qualities in him for leadership.
We lost defensive shape when Crotty went off but as we know its a lot different defending at 2nd five to centre swapping in a game isn't always easy especially with a new centre to work with. -
@taniwharugby Atu Moli was the U20s captain in 2015 and Jack Goodhue vice-captain. So I assume he took over the captaincy as soon as Moli was replaced during the games. Also, Jack Goodhue did captain the NZU20s in their game against Argentina (Moli was named on the bench for that game). Here's a nice article about it (with more interesting info).

@MN5 I have very little that seems to make me a NZer anymore. Because I talk for a living, mostly, I sound very Australian. I couldn't be fucked with the ignorant pricks that pretended they couldn't understand me because I pronounce the word "seven" a particular way. Now that I've lost weight I get confused for Italian or Greek more and more. So in order to stop the Aussification of myself, I am owning my NZ-ness where possible.
Hi my username is Razbra and the NZ Warriors are my NRL team.....I'd imagine being a crack addict is only slightly harder to admit.

Pity this thread descended into stupidity - that was a cracking semifinal and the Canes were unlucky to lose.

Agree with the comments on Crotty from @pakman we looked so disorganised when he went off.
serious question, what does that say about the 10?
I should have written disorganised on defense ...
I griped earlier in the thread about how we started to hang off Barrett and Coles in the second half.
I don't think it's Richie's job to lead the defensive line.
Canes started their ascendency near the end of the first half. Forwards lifted and were then able to provide some front foot ball. This allowed BB some breathing space. Also, two of the four tries were scored with Crotty on the field. Do agree they missed Crotty but that could also be due Ennor looking a bit list on D.
-
@antipodean Agree, it was a classic game of two halves and I'm sure the Canes will be better next year for the experience. You could probably argue that the Canes will have a better pack than the Crusaders next year, ironically the Crusaders will have a better backline. It will be interesting to see how it pans out but for now good luck to the Crusaders and Jaguares in what will be a entertaining final.
-
@Canes4life Possibly still some recruiting to do, the Crusaders Loose Forwards look light we need something to stiffen up that area.
Canes would have an edge there at the moment for next season and probably a big one at that. -

The second half had some incredibly good rugby, with both the tens showing some timely form (timely for the ABs).
Some of the stuff Barrett was doing was incredible, stuff that only he can do. And straight away, Richie would pull out something almost as good. Was like a mini AB trial in front of the selectors.
TJ was huge factor out there too, his tackling is like having another flanker.
Very enjoyable game to watch as a neutral.
Be interesting to see what the impact of that game will be on the Crusaders, if that was their final. I'm expecting the actual final to be a flat game in comparison, with an easy Crusaders victory. Travel is just too big a factor, combined with home advantage.

The game really should have been won in the first half. The Crusaders had plenty of chances inside the red zone but some uncharacteristic errors meant they only had a 10 point buffer. Obviously the Canes defence was great, but even the great Sam W put down a sitter.
That second half was epic. I've been very meh about rugby so far this year, but that got the juices flowing. Really starting to feel pumped about the big clashes to come.

Yep, that was incredible. He took it to another level. Imagine if he had Smith's pass!

@Rancid-Schnitzel Whenever I hear his name, I think about this try
Unpossible!
