I think most Liverpool supporters will be happy to join Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City as first-time winners of the Premier League.

Klopp will be annoyed - having that humongous lead, enabled Liverpool to really focus on the UCL (and FA Cup) and now they could lose every game they play for the rest of the season and still be crowned champions.

@MajorRage Other than winning the Premier League (breaking a 30 year drought) by a record margin and possibly setting a new points record along the way - it's going to be a shit season for Liverpool.

Yeah, the one thing we want above all others - break the drought.

Pity, but that CL result is the difference between the two keepers.

    Oh look another ‘pudlian ....

When I was under 10 years old we watched a gap tapped toothed Brian Moore host Big League Soccer. It came on about 12 noon on a Sunday, on the one tv channel we had back then.

Even better were the weekly Shoot magazines that gave untold information about the first division and England football . Player profiles and cut out cardboard league tables were personal favourites.

Still better again, was sleeping on the couch for a 2am wake up, Milo and vegemite on toast. F.A. Cup live! A near second to the same arrangements for games at Cardiff Arms Park and Murrayfield et al.

Father, presumably tiring of constantly making up the answer to: "Dad, which one's closer to New Zealand, Liverpool or Manchester United?" declared it time for the 3 males in the family to have a team each. He took the arse, I got Liverpool and my brother got Nottingham Forest, (later to change by following Peter Shilton to Southampton, thanks to inside info from Shoot magazine).

I got up for the Heysel game, and that shapes a youth. I got up for Istanbul 21 years later. Must've watched over 100 games on television in Asia, same as you, and I guess they've been my team for nigh on 43 years.

I've never ever been to Anfield 😉

I've befriended many a scouser on my way, and we've bonded as kindred spirits. Hope that counts for something.

But never seen the reds live.🙂 Not even in Bangkok when they came. But I did encounter Michael Owen in Bangkok one day. It was a little bit cool, for me at least:

I lived across the river from the Oriental Hotel in Klong Sarn, Bangkok. Back then, maybe late 2000's - whenever Owen played, the Oriental was close to the best hotel in the world. A peculiar spot because 300 metres from rich opulent Asian and western downtown was a typically Thai city-suburb with fuck all ignorant foreigners at all.

    Except me.

So, on Sunday mornings I'd venture about 6 blocks on foot, through the delightful morass of humanity to get one of two English language Bangkok Post newspaper's on sale at a particular stand in a busy market. Pre iphone days when the Sunday paper and a hangover was the definition of a life well lived.

Never see a foreigner in that neighbourhood, in those days. Maybe one every month.

    Except this day

Crowded laneway. 2 falangs ( Thai word for westerners) approaching me at market walking speed, 25 - 30 yards away. Bloke and a pretty long haired blonde. Never see falangs here. Chick is taller than bloke. Bloke has white singlet and grey shorts. Chick is well fuckable. Never see falangs here. Bloke looks familiar. Fuck looks like Owen. Liverpool played 2 nights ago. Fuck I think it is Owen! Yeah, and she fits right in. Fuckable but looks a bit straight.

Now we've all eyeballed each other and we share a "fuck another westerner!" involuntary reaction, given our surroundings, which shows up as brief surprise on all faces.

A surprise for us but also definitely a surprise for the locals. Falangs get stared at in non touristy places. Lots of eyes on the falangs.

By now it's definitely Michael Owen and a fuckable taller chick - not hard to be certain, because other's who've been in Michael's company will also attest that he's fucken short, and looks exactly the same as those Michael Owen Pepsi billboards.

It was clear, to me at least, that the staring and mildly falang interested Thais would, to a person, know who Michael Owen is. Marketing combined with a passionate interest in European football. A possible powder keg about to erupt if the football star is unveiled.
Nah, I know - too dramatic, but tally and shorty were sure giving off "don't say anything" vibes.
I furrowed my brow quizically and pointed at him in a non verbal accusation that screamed "Hey, you're that soccer guy!".

For sure he picked up on our telepathy because his eyes widened. Then I did about the coolest thing I've ever spontaneously pulled off. A definitely not, "if only I'd..." moment.

I brought my forefinger up to pursed lips and mimicked the sshhhh sign.

Michael Owen, in response, gave me a look of gratitude and a hearty thumbs up sign, and, as the 30 odd yards had elapsed, all three of us parted, ( me with newspaper under an arm), with a look in the eye grin, and a nod of the head in agreement. Even the sheila.

A true account, ask Mike about it if ever you get the chance. No doubt he'll remember the day he and white knickers presumably took advantage of the Oriental boat service to see some real Bangkok and ran into a falang who single handedly staved off a celebrity stampede from an ethnic population that won't or wouldn't say boo to a goose. 🙂

Can I still support them mate?

Can I still be an English football supporter?😉

I could probably rattle off most of the 80's team names.

Can I be expunged from the 40-50 year old men who love supporting winners group?

    Have I passed the criteria😉

After nearly 50 years can they still be my team? - I promise to get to Anfield one day...

Nah just joshing rage and looking for an excuse to drunkenly reminisce and write a story.

    First Premiership title, perhaps.

Genuinely fine days for us pudlians at the moment.

Suffer in yer jocks chelsea boy. Sell out to the yanks, not the russkis 😁👍

Shut it down, immediately. Things are about to get really bad. People right now in London and New York — and most likely every cosmopolitan city in the world — are walking around with the virus undetected. And they’re going to hit a wall very soon. Get ready to be parked on the sofa for a month, and have the PlayStation handy, ‘cos we’re not going to be watching live professional sports for a while..

    Just the wins? 😀

Maybe a 2020 Covid Fern initiative is to find a way to share these games via some private torrent or something

fuck yeah, I'm not a masochist -why would I watch a game where we lost a second time. I'll leave celebrating close losses and draws to the poms.

Only until 4 April. Plenty of time to be made up down the track. Domestic leagues to complete at a later date but the Euros to be jettisoned

The league won't be able to restart until June at the earliest IMO.
