@Bones yeah it's something like that. Saders, Highlanders, ignoring it a fair bit

does it only apply to regular all blacks? ie Read, Taylor, Whitelock and presumably Franks, Moody, Barrett, Goodhue (who missed last week)

Mo'unga, Todd, Crotty, Bridge hardly had a large workload on Japan/NH tour

Who knows, it was stated in the press that it applies to all, but maybe it's totally individual. It's annoying that we are not told.

Wow, the Canes go up the middle through a gap left by Taufua who looks out on his feet, just jogging really.

His All Black opportunity has disappeared.

Bombed a try, passed into touch, looks ineffective ball in hand and not very fit. Was dominated last week too.

Crusaders will be dirty they did not leave with the bonus point and being beaten 20-14 in the 2nd half

must have been an advantage playing into the wind

So all those Ferners moaning about the Crusaders (and Highlanders) not complying with the ABs protocols, read this again, as quoted by @Duluth:

the All Blacks not playing more than 60 minutes in week one, or 180 minutes total across the first three games

This has been reported by most media, but some media have changed this to

the All Blacks not playing more than 60 minutes in week one, and 180 minutes total across the first three games

This maybe explains some of the confusion.

Considering the Crusaders subbed Franks straight at the beginning of the 2nd half; Moody in about the 43rd minute; Scott Barret and Mo'unga in approx the 48th minute; and Todd in about the 58th minute. They can still easily comply with those protocols; most of these players can even still play a half against the Reds (so may or may not be named on the bench next week) and still meet the protocols.

Also, leaving Goodhue on the field - who was having bad cramp about 12 minutes before the end of the game - was clearly not the intention, but he had to play the full 80, due to the injury of Mataele, who had to be replaced by Ennor. Crotty probably won't play next week.

The Highlanders will be in a similar situation - although with fewer ABs to manage. Ben Smith may get next week off or come off the bench in the last 20.

Great game from Scott Barrett, who was named Man of the Match. Also good games from Taufua (unlucky to fall over his own feet on his way to the tryline), both Franks & Moody, huge impact from Romano; Mo'unga (except the missed conversions), Goodhue, Crotty and Havili. Goodhue stuggled a bit at the end with cramp. Mataele was good, too (apart from that one bad decision not to pass in the 1st half, which may have cost them a try). Sad that he seems to have injured his knee again.

The Canes. Coles was good, apart from those line-out throws. Their tight five is - Coles excluded - is a huge problem, and not something they'll be able to fix easily. They desperately need better props; the props they're having now, are more suited for golden oldies. Evans was good; Kirifi shows promise but he's still a puppie at 21. Christie can do a few things well and then do a whole lot of things wrong; Perenara's impact was clearly noticeable. Very good. The Canes desperately need BB back to give some direction to their backline. Proctor wasn't bad, but I hardly noticed Aso tonight; was he really playing tonight? Ben Lam did have a reasonably good game. I still think Goosen is useless.

Hansen and Fox walked out past us about 10 minutes before the end. Getting a bit of advice from our group. Hansen head down and dour. Fox found it funny. Good on him.

@Wally 🙂 I'm sure Fox has heard a bit from Christchurch crowds over the years.

Jesus, week 2 and is it shut the gate on the crusaders?

The rest of us will fight it out competitively for sure but I've got a feeling mad razor is building a wee juggernaut.

It's too early for creditable coherence but for the other NZ franchises, if you're going to win this comp, you've only got to beat the crusaders once, at knockout time. Gotta beat seven bells out of the other three though!

Plumtree was never a great head coach. But he was always a top coach. He never won with Wellington but always came close

But I'm wondering whether he has lost it. It happens at times where great coaches decline rapidly. Like players do. Look at Man United and Mourinho. Plumtree was a top defense coach but last year the defense towards the end was poor. This year his lock selections are idiotic (one is 1.90 and one 1.95) But even selecting Blackwell as his top lock is beyond strange. And he has other options. And he needed to bring in at least one good prop this year but nothing. Also the conditioning of the tight 5 is poor and has been for three years running but no changes on this front. He (or the current coaching team) is ruining the team with bad recruitment, bad conditioning esp of the tight 5, appalling selections and it seems almost nil development of players

The management need to put the hard word on Plumtree. But I have the feeling his time has passed. A once very good coach seems to have declined rapidly. And if this rot is allowed to carry on for too long no one will want to move to the Canes

Good on foxy for giving us a smile and a wink, chiefs fans on the other thread could learn something from the way he handled it.

God, Jordie Barrett was crap... he needs to stop trying for the miracle play every and get back to basics.

After a couple of terrible lineouts the crowd really got to Dane Coles and his throwing got even worse.

Hurricanes 7 looked to be the only one in that forward pack playing with vigour.

He's used to it coming off same as his brother. When it doesn't they are merely good rugby players.

Watched the start of the game out if the corner of my eye at the pub. Good intensity by both sides BUT Canes forwards looked very lazy after the first ten minutes.

Last week their tight five were a class above. I think they have a comp-winning pack, and not sure who can compete with them.

Canes and Chiefs seem to have regressed. Blues looked good round 1, but fell apart in SA. Going to be another long season, (although Blues success is a mid table finish and improvement through the year)

    Goosen gets another start? 🙄

    I prefer Goosen to Lam

Unsurprising, you've been fluffing him for a couple of years - he's average and nowhere near as good as Lam (peak Lam or average Lam).
