I'm insulted you considered that a rant.

The bench is highlighted by the inclusion of Coles while there are potential Hurricanes debuts for promising prop Xavier Numia and loose forward Du'Plessis Kirifi. James Marshall, who won the 2016 Super Rugby title with the Hurricanes in his last appearance in New Zealand, has also been named on the bench.

That is one shit forward pack. Savea the only player above Super standard (other than Coles who is on the bench). Evans is a good 7 but average 8.
What? Evans is an excellent 8. He played there in 2018 all season and stood out. It's what earned him his AB cap.

The bat sign will be shining bright over @Stargazer 's house, I'll bet!
Edit: ha ha, shit, I see he's already got here to comment.

15 Jordie BarrettI don't have high hope for the Canes this year. Plumtree is a great assistant coach but not really up to it as a head coach. But maybe he will prove me wrong but not based on this team. He likes the plodder forwards too much. Like Blackwell. Only 1.90 and poor in the scrum. He's a limited NPC lock. Even at 6 he's ordinary. But he seems to have Plumtrees support. And Ricky as opposed to Aumua. Although I can sort of understand this if and only if he rotates the three hookers
Another factor is defense. Its important yet they select Lam. Even attack he's a bit limited. Great against poor defenses but otherwise doesn't do a thing. And his defending is poor. Add in Laumape who needs to work on defense as well.
I would start Isaia Walker-Leawere and Goosen.
I was hoping Spencer might make a difference but not so far. And the number of injuries again suggest they needed a new conditioning coach. Its been an issue since 2017. Especially the tight 5. The coaches talk about how fit the team is but fit and fragile is hopeless

@Winger F$#k sake that forward pack is barely NPC standard. I had high hopes for John Plumtree and his hard nosed approach, but ffs that forward pack is shit house. Easy improvements are Aumua over Riccitelli, Cridge over Blackwell, Walker-Leawere over Mitchell and Bedwell Curtis over Prinsep. Not rocket science.
They also need to get rid of Dan Cron & Richard Watt as scrum / lineout coaches. They've been there forever, surely it's time for a fresh approach. It's not like our scrum has improved while he's been there.

Opening cards done, now for the weekend's main event.

After two NZ and one Aussie derby, it's time for the first Trans- Ta$man clash.
Matt Proctor is out of the game; Aso moving to the midfield; Goosen starts on the wing. I missed the team line-ups, but I assume Billy Proctor has taken Goossen's spot on the bench?
