Black Caps v India

@nzzp yep, might even be an argument that India have been better running the game than poms and ockers.
Made cricket a genuine high earning career on their watch, everyone plays each other more (poms used to go to sub continent once every decade, aus similar), have spread the money around (we get a year's revenue from one full indian tour).
After the Drs refusals a few years ago, cricket has been relatively issue free for a few years now.
Besides if the poms ran the game it'd have to be "bats-they" or "bats-them" in a year or two!
-
@Chris-B It is similar to Taylor before he sorted out his eyes and to some degree at the moment. He struggles to keep the scoreboard ticking over early on but if he does get towards the end of the innings then he catches up fast. Whereas someone like KW is much better at keeping close to a run a ball but can't put the pedal to the metal like other batsmen. Worst case is Dhoni gets to 20 off 50 balls and then gets out .....

@Chris-B Good points.
I do think it's a bit like worrying if Dan Carter was going to fail us come World cup time - definitely possible but the career pedigree suggests it's quite low on the list of forcastable banana skins
Yeah - it's always hard as people approach the end of their careers to know whether they've had a genuine slowing of reactions, or they're just having a lean patch.
But, sooner or later, Father Time gets everyone. And I won't shed anywhere near as many tears for Dhoni if he's run out of gas as I would've if Danny had run out in 2015!
-
I think I love kohli. That fluffybunny cares. Rarely do you see someone that pissed off with themselves for getting out.
Dhoni better find his touch now, he's been a bit shit so far tonight
-
Adam Zampa offends me

Baby faced effeminate little fuck

3 quick reasons backing the ordinary bowling line up appraisal?
Got home after a night out and was extremely pissed. I think I thought I was posting in the mid 2000s. It's my only explanation cos I seriously don't remember writing that.
I got the batting part right at least....
Well at least your not stuck in the mid 90s anymore. Progress.
Unlike Australia's ODI totals

Jesse Ryder was fucken furious when he got out for 201 against India as I recall. I thought that showed good character.....
Unfortunately he was so furious he hit the bottle and never even got close to those heights again.
-
It'd be interesting to know if the vastly smaller grounds and crowds they'll get here will be a little underwhelming for India and perhaps even performance inhibiting after playing in the big stadiums in Australia with a shitload of Indians (and fuck all Aussies) in the stands.
-
I hope Dhoni bats as casually as this.
-
Two set batsmen, they'll coast home from here.
-
Will be a shocking choke if they don't. It feels like 12 an over is the new 6. If you can force the asking rate above that then batting sides start to lose composure.
-
Pissed it in. Dhoni with another pacing masterclass backed by a run a ball 50 from jadhav
Australian sport is fucked
-
At the Auckland aces game. Gavin Larsen sitting nearby and taking a keen interest in Mark Chapman.
Also, EPOO really good for cricket. Wish they could play tests here
-
Brilliant day in Hawke's Bay today for the first ODI.
Not a cloud in the sky and expected high of 31 degrees.
-
India paying $1.69 at the TAB. NZ is paying $2.18.
I think that's pretty decent money for us. Since the last CWC we've played 35 ODIs at home and won 27 of them.
A couple of early wickets against India to get past Rohit, Dhawan, and Kohli and we're well on the way.
Over the series, I think Guptill and Munro getting us away to good starts will be important. I've got plenty of faith in Kane and Rossco to get us to decent scores, but getting us to winning scores will be much easier if they can come in with momentum, rather than having to rebuild a shaky start.
Us to win the series.

No mention of TNGOAT Henry Nicholls?
Harsh.
-
Thats worth putting a few bob on the good guys, especially after reading this:
Quite impressive really
-
@Chris-B said in Black Caps v India:
@MN5 Not sure Henry will get a start today.
Him or Colin to bat at 6? (Though if Henry plays I'd bat him at 5 and list Tom Latham at 6).
Imagine how much AB fans would lose their shit if they didn't know who was starting on the day.
-
@Chris-B India's missing its best bowler, and its 1st choice all-rounder who bats #6, but still think they are more likely to make minced kabobs out of the black sheep.
I wish there was a 3 test tour somewhere in here instead of just hit and giggle fest. But I guess the NZ board decided to prioritize LOI cricket and the $$$ bonanza instead.
-
@newsjunkie I believe the lack of tests was dictated by the BCCI.
-
yep, plus the start time at 3pm for a better viewing for Indian audiences. David White said they negotiated the $$ for this tour about 1.5-2 years ago, which was luckily during our upward trend in form so we got a pretty good deal by all accounts. It does suck we aren't playing them in any tests, but with the WC around the corner snaking 5 ODI's versus the best team in the world isn't all bad.
Picking 3-2 to us and really hoping we can start out strong while they are getting a handle on conditions etc.
Guess a few (most) of our guys will also be thinking about this being a perfect IPL audition too! even if it is ODI's rather than 20/20.

Uh, you believe wrong. Home board controls scheduling, touring board only controls availability timeframe.
-
@newsjunkie Yeah - I'd be less bullish if your guys had Bumrah, especially.
But we were competitive against you in India a year ago, when you had Bumrah and Pandya, so I reckon at home we've got a pretty reasonable chance!
However, the game is not played on paper...
-
@Chris-B Fair point. I'm hoping for a closely fought series as well. Better prep for the WC.
I wouldn't even mind if the Indian team got beat here, will expose the weak links in the team tactics nicely.

If that was true we wouldn't have T20's starting at 8PM and ODI's starting at 3PM.
-
First off, those are 'prime time' slots for sports on TV in most countries. Where I live, in Trumpistan, 8 pm is the golden slot for any sporting event. Highly sought after, and generate maximum TV revenue.
Secondly, even if those times were somehow chosen for maximum Indian TV ratings, did you consider the possibility that it would be the TV and Ad companies that bid for the rights to broadcast the games in India that probably asked the NZ board to select such timings?
The BCCI can be blamed for many things, but caring for their fans and using their clout for the same isn't one of them.
But why ruin a good whinge on the evil BCCI with silly things such as facts.
-
Anyway - we've won the toss and will bat.
Get into it Guppy and Munro!
-
Because making India chase always works best...
-
...great start
-
Guppy got Shami'd. Noyce. Very Noyce.
-
Man, that was a rubbish defensive shot from Guppy!
-
Shami with a pearler. Munro at sea and we are two down.
-
Guppy has been awful since his big 100 in the first SL game.
Our openers a concern....
-
Boycott's mum could have driven a car through that Munro gate...
