Piri Weepu's brother and Junior Tonu'u are playing for NZ.
Shit, is Billy the whole front row or is he playing in the midfield like in his school days?
He was one of the best number 8s I ever played with...
When did he play number 8? Kiddies days or when he returned from Sydney?
He was a crazy sight in the midfield for Te Aute back in the day!

Would've been around the mid naughties, maybe earlier. He dabbled in midfield too, but wouldn't have been good enough to oust me of course.

@Machpants Not a good look, no. But Jones is an upgrade for Wales, in my view, so maybe it's an ill wind
-
@Billy-Tell Yep, just saw 6-10 today. Top 5 will be Johnson, Wilkinson, McCaw, Pienaar and Lomu in that (descending) order.

Which is the upset result in the pool stages that throws one entire side of the draw open? There always seems to be one. What do you reckon?
Scotland tipping over Ireland and France tipping over England. Potentially, this may have no bearing on the QF match-ups, as there's a fairly good chance Scotland get tipped over by Japan and France get tipped over by Argentina, with Ireland and England still topping their respective pools (see South Africa losing to Japan in 2015).

It's not really possible for one half to totally open up because NZ and SA are destined to go on either side. Ireland winning their QF would do it though.
Would be a lot more interesting if the winner of the Pool of Death (Pool C) got Scotland/Japan in a QF and NZ/SA were paired with Aus/Wales.

Moving towards the scrum these days, but I'd put good money that Piri was bigger now.

Thought it was interesting with shag in his presser , when talking about South Africa’s defence, said they roll the dice , with wingers charging in, but it’s good because it gives you opportunities.
Mentioned it twice , a little bit of mind games ?
Ben Smith mentioned it too in his interview, you could be onto something.

I heard that as well

Not sure an upset will open up the draw because:
NZ or SA
Eng or Fra or Arg
Ire or Sco or Jap
Sal or Aus (or Fij)There's no easy QF.

England coming 2nd in their pool would definitely count as opening everything right the fuck up. It makes one of Wales and England take each other out.
But, because nearly every quarter is going to be a shitfight, there just feels like less opportunity for a "free ride" to a final

There's no easy QF.
Scotland/Japan are a clear rung below the other three likely finalists. Weaker than last tournament too.
My point being does either of them in the QF open up one side of the draw?

Yep and given our issues with Ireland in recent times , I think I’d prefer to avoid that game in a quarter despite their patchy form
I’ll gladly take Scotland or japan instead

Not really, like I said before it really can only open up if Ireland win their QF and/or we lose ours.

Most interesting will be seeing how Argentina cope when the game isn’t a friendly
They go pretty well at RWC time don't they? My memory suggests their record has been pretty good over the last few tournaments

Oh, this is bloody, gloriously priceless. Sir Clive Woodwhinge profiles the Teams and here he is on NZ.
""Key man: Tempting to say Beauden Barrett, their best player, but actually the man who cements the backs together is Sonny Bill Williams.
Rising star: Richie Mo’unga, a quality new No10 but it’s his goal-kicking New Zealand need most.
Weaknesses: Very few, but lost occasional matches through goal kicking, hence spotlight on Mo’unga.*
Does he know BB generally takes the kicks when RM is playing & SBW is rarely fully fit?
And we think the likes of Rattue don't actually watch games....

I was aware of that. Just wanted to provide a real answer for a change. The cat man has gone strangely quiet lately....
