Re: Munro. I'm not really a fan, I think he gets found out by quality opposition as he's really just a hitter with a good eye and shit technique. But we're really struggling to find a decent opener to partner Guppy.
Latham is the only other contender who has averaged more than 30 in that position in the past few years. It's not a bad idea, but would completely change our approach as both he and Guppy tend to start slow and build into their innings. So we'd be putting all our eggs in the final 10 overs with the hope that we'd score enough then to get a competitive total, which can heap a lot of pressure on the middle/lower order. I'm not convinced we have the finishers to make that work consistently.
Given Munro's T20 form I think he's worth a gamble at the top, with Latham floating as an insurance policy.
Pretty well put.
I seriously believe though that a poor series against India will put Munro's position under immense threat. So if not Latham, due to that tendency to start slow and build into an innings (valid when I dig into his stats), then who can we use in lieu of Munro? How about this: Corey Anderson.
Thoughts?
When is he ever fit? Another strong guy with fast hands, not sure of his technique though
I think he's fit at the moment and playing as a batsman for ND.
So why is he not in the side again? Down the pecking order? Coming back into form?
Presumably they see him as needing to be able to bowl. While he's back batting, I'm guessing his form isn't stellar or he'd already be in the conversation. We know what he can do though and would he be any worse than Munro?

Still, Watson averaged 40 in ODIs.
To be fair he was actually an excellent player in the shorter formats. It was when people compared him to Jaques Kallis I got annoyed.
He got the most runs and second-most wickets at the world T20 in 2012

I wouldn’t have a problem if he was picked, but the problem is who to leave out?
Looking at our allrounders:
CdG and Santner are locked in.
Neesham must be after his efforts this month.Not much wiggle room there.
If his bowling is deemed up to scratch he could go in place of one of the bowlers
Boult, Ferguson locked in.
Southee probably is too, despite calls on here for him to be dropped. He’s got experience and history of performing under pressure.Sodhi is likely IMO, I just can’t see them taking only one spinner.
That leaves Matt Henry who hasn’t had many chances and his form hasn’t been great, so he’d be the most likely to make room for Bracewell.
Only other option would be if Nicholls was good enough with the gloves to be back up keeper, he could have Seiferts spot.

CdG may be locked in - but he shouldn't be.
Given the balance of the team, if selected he would be one of five frontline bowlers plus Kane. The guy averages 50 with the ball in ODI and when you look at his record Kane rarely has the confidence to go back to him for a second (let a lone third) spell with him if he takes tap early (which is often).
His batting record is what it is - only 18 innings and it's a different role every game. With one fifty though hardly undroppable.

The ability to hold his bat should help his case a bit - but Braces should be primarily under consideration as a bowler.

From what I've heard he has markedly improved with the bat in the past two seasons. He looked very good last night, certainly made a strong claim for a spot

I'd want to see more from Bracewell with both disciplines but especially batting. Handy last night but that was just one performance. He's still very much a bowler who bats a bit for me, which would have him competing with Southee and Henry for a spot. Although as someone pointed out, CDG shouldnt be a shoe-in either.
