@mn5 it's good to see the other side of the story. I enjoyed that doco.

**Barry wasn't mentioned because he doesn't feature in the annals of boxers. Shit he barely features as a trainer.
    **
I remember the paraglider. I was pissed.

Haha, it was a tongue in cheek comment, Apparently Evander was winning quite comfortably.

Tyson has mellowed with age considerably as we all know. What a fascinating character.

I saw the Barry-Holyfield fight at the time, it was a bit embarrassing.

"I am just like many people here, I am an avid boxing fan and I enjoy doing it. **Not like footy I can cater it around my family and school drop off**.

"It felt good (coming back), until I got a couple of those bombs. That is the sport of boxing, you don't play boxing that is for sure. I am just doing my due diligence to respect the sport.

So he can respect any sport that fits in with school dropoffs? Weekend lawn bowls is calling.

Hopefully he gets into boxing so we don’t have to see him on Stan. Great athlete and specimen of a man but really shit in front of a camera. Maybe he can fight Israel Dagg? Or Joe Wheeler? He’s been unemployed for months.

Dagg wouldn’t be much good at pro wrestling, someone would pull his hair off.

This was a great fight on the weekend ,

Tank Davies is an exciting young talent , went up 2 divisions to beat Barrios, he is in a division stacked with talent , should be some great match ups ....... hopefully

Well, like Fury, Wilder certainly is an interesting character. Slightly weird that his “weak” side ( ie his left ) appeared to lift better than the right.

Deontay Wilder's latest training video has fans concerned about Tyson Fury fight - The Mirror

Deontay Wilder is renowned for his fearsome knockout power, but the latest footage from the American's training camp has raised concerns over his condition ahead of his trilogy fight with Tyson Fury

He’s a punchers chance too, sure his boxing skills might be slightly questionable but he hits like a mule. Definitely up there with Foreman, Shavers, Liston etc.

@mn5 you just never know. He could have shoulder issues. I had a collar bone injury in my late teens that makes my left side weaker but my form is better because I over compensate.

The thing about wilder is he has only ever fought one quality fighter outside of Fury. He's not a boxer arsehole. He has lightning in his hands but if the guy you're trying to hit can't be hit theres fat chance youre going to. The first fight Fury was underdone and coming back from a long lay off of cocaine and alcohol. Now he's in prime fight shape and his mind is right. Wilder would need to have the best fight of his life and Fury to be complacent.

@kiwiinmelb He should go to 135, which is the most stacked division in boxing.

Nothing amazing about 140, apart from Taylor (who's gonna move to 147), and Progaris.

Now you’ve put it that way I think there’s probably no hope for him. He’ll get a nice payday though.

Fury’s punch evasion skills are incredible for a large kinda unco looking bloke.

Yeah that’s the division I was talking about , he fights a bit over the place , but that’s where the big matchups are for him ,

Loma , Lopez , Haney , Garcia , let’s hope Floyd wants that to happen and doesn’t try and take the safety first option

@mikethesnow They could have gotten someone a bit better for Dubois to face instead of an overmatched opponent like Cusumano. Good exposure for Dubois but surely someone a bit better than Cusumano.

Can't see Baranchyk doing much in a stacked 147 division either as he was a solid 140 contender without ever threatning to rule the division. I take it he struggles to make weight there now???

I think the main problem for the sport right now isn’t this , I mean if you don’t like it give it the attention it deserves ,

But management teams protecting fighters records , , the sport is stacked with talent through the divisions , that hasn’t changed , but getting the match ups the fans want is another issue .

That’s nothing new…..fighters have dodged eachother for yonks. Foreman apparently ducked Earnie Shavers, Tyson apparently ducked Foreman….Norton and Frazier never fought cos they were close friends……the Klitschkos never fought cos they promised their Mum they wouldn’t etc.

yeah its worse now , there might have been a bit of ducking , that part will always happen ,but we still had multiple great match ups in that era and frequently .

Now the problem is more business related .

We have fighters with different management teams who are contracted to different TV networks , who protect their cash cow , who dont like to do business with other fighters unless they are in the same management team with the same TV network , particularly when belts are involved .

The UFC has the better set up where they pretty much all fight under the same umbrella , fights get made with ease in comparison .

I remember last lockdown I had a great time watching old videos of the history of boxing and all the great champs of yesteryear ( I mainly focussed on heavyweights ) I’ve also read numerous articles on the state of boxing nowadays and how inferior todays heavyweights are. Basically in a nutshell Fury ( big, great boxer but no power ) Wilder ( great power but can’t box ) Ruiz ( no conditioning ) and Joshua ( weak chin, no heart ).

I think I mentioned it before but “boxing” as a sport may go the way of the dodo in 10 or 20 years. That would upset me hugely. I love Fury and Wilder though, I really hope their fight generates at least some excitement and interest.

@kiwiinmelb I’m one of the casual fans that the sport relies on for big money and from my viewpoint all I tend to see is matches announced 9 months out that you know have only a slim chance of actually happening due to other claims, injuries, pull-outs etc.
No one gets excited because the gaps are too long and rivalries don’t progress.
We have a prime target belt holder in heavyweight that still looks like an imposter and years pass between challenges to his position.
