will it be tomorrow or wednesday when the fingers start getting pointed across provincial lines?
I'd start it now but they were pretty universally shit.

on the positive side, this could be the most interesting rugby week on the Fern in years. We just had a loss people care about.
Hell yeah - would love to see the traffic from a typical week to this week!
we might not even need to make up rando topics in the middle of threads to entertain ourselves
will it be tomorrow or wednesday when the fingers start getting pointed across provincial lines?
You mean no more dick pick threads?

hey hey hey, let's not throw the baby out with the bath water. Epic threads are welcome at any time. Especially at a time of mourning and recrimination

The “we were holding something back” argument is always nice wishful thinking, but often bollocks.
I can’t easily remember the last time a team suddenly pulled off a triple scissors esque move for the first time ever in an RWC knockout game.
If we were holding any cards close to our chest this weekend then we’ve been doing so for about 15 months. Perhaps we’ve been holding back having a kicking game that isn’t pedestrian/custard footed. Maybe some of our forwards won’t play in leaden shoes or won’t butter their fingers next year.
The hopeful comparisons with the 2015 pool games are all well and good, except this time they all had the Japan game off.

It dates back to Laurie Mains. He at least claimed that he deliberately used a conservative game plan in 94 to outfox the opposition. Not sure how true that is. It certainly helped to have Lomu, Mehrtens, Osborne and Kronfeld in 95.
Ultimately it's not smart to have untested hidden genius tactics if they prove to be utterly shit.
I do however think there will be a different game plan and far more strategic thinking going into each game. There has to be. More of the same will be the death of us.
Thing is, NZ winning the last 2 RWCs has been the best thing for international rugby. When we couldn't win the farking thing there was less respect for AB achievements in the intervening years. In Australia in particular, even a crushing loss was "building nicely for the world cup". Apparently doing well in a tournament every four years, justifies three years of shit.
It's been a pleasant change. So for the health of international rugby, it's imperative that NZ wins the RWC. Absolutely vital.

Thats the thing, they are trying a different one (or2?) just it aint working, so now what?
Not much actual game time to iron the kinks out to try get it right, or will we see some AB players play to specific AB gameplans in super rugby?
The other thing is people questioning Reads leadership, was pretty damn good last week, adjusting and adapting, which TBF I think was a reflection of the ABs were actually playing alright bar the 1st 20, whereas yesterday a bunch of players, including Read were playing poorly so we needed an awful lot of players yesterday to energise and step back up.
Given how we played (more so in execution of basic skills - kicking, catching) yesterday, we left a few points out there, as did Ireland, is it really the end of the world we only lost by 7, or can that be looked at as a positive?

We need a scapegoat ,
I nominate Fozzie ,
I blame Fozzie .
-
@kiwiinmelb easier to blame Barnes, if he hadnt called that not forward pass forward, I reckon we score off the turnover we won, so I blame him, whole heartedly, and Fozzie, and Deans, dont forget Deans.

But worth it for the gems that Tony Woodcock and the 2011 final provided

Well of course no one knows what's going on inside the camp.
Therefore there is some logic in looking at reality.
Hansen says there's more to come
1014 and other such armchair analysts really get some sophisticated strategies and data (e.g..ABs rely on 3 second rucks, pods, defence lines, with 2 at the back the 4 or 5 rucks and their field position before unlocking the money move, no one runs the ball in the field quarter behind halfway etc.)
That means every opposition has that data or patternsGiven these logistics versus the fucken chip kicking dross and side to side bollocks we saw on Sat and suggesting a powder dry scenario isn't illogical.
Might not be true, sure, but totally illogical to think that that performance against Ireland is all we got.
Powder dry is a possible suggestion to what we've seen and a coach telling us that.
It's not 100% bollocks or 100% correct.
Don't see too many creditable explanations as to why the best pro team ever played a huge game with no discernible scoring tactics or points of difference.
To wander into the illogical, it occurred to me that the game looked like an episode from Last Chance U where the coach sent them in to fail in order to dilute player power, laziness or complacency.
I don't think that happened but by Christ they looked under prepared, tactically -

Why wait!
Look at who the players were who did 90% of the stupid little chip kicks. Look at which franchise they play for. Is it synonymous with rugby intelligence?
Maybe we've seen the failure of Hansen's Plan A - and now it's time to move to Plan A...CT - i.e. just roll out the Crusaders and a Token Brodie (he shoulda been one of us anyway) and a Token Ioane.
-
look at those fucking idiot Crusader captains giving away repeated dumb penalties. retards...
And i note that without our yeoman BOP flanker we had no one with the stones and the power to sit Irish runners on their asses. Too many pussy South Islanders...

Ireland have two world class coaches in Schmidt and Farrell. We have a world class coach in Shag who might be a bit stale atm, and two clowns as assistants. That's where the game was lost, we were out coached.
-
@mariner4life That's Hansen's cunning plan. When we play in the RWC he'll just go, "Sammy, no stupid penalties today right. Or, you Reado."
"Heh, heh. Sorted. Now where's my fish 'n chips, Fozzie?" .

easy job this coaching.

further on Hansen, he has said he will be making an announcement on his future in the next 4 weeks or so....
