@Chris Yes, sadly, the announcements of the departures of PGS, Mo'unga and Frizell is only the start of probably a huge exodus post-RWC. I expect a much greater number of players to retire or leave for greener pastures after the 2023 RWC than we saw after the 2019 RWC. While a rejuvenation of the ABs and SR squads isn't necessarily a bad thing, it also means the loss of a huge amount of experience and rugby IQ on the two highest levels in NZ. We can only hope that the next generation is ready and good enough.

I'm happy to chip in to expedite Frizzel's contract to next year. Who's with me?

    @Chris said in Exodus:

RM and Frizell will probably be followed by a few more after the WC.
Beauden Barrett,Brodie Retallick,Sam Whitelock,RTS and Sam Cane leading the way.Maybe D Mac as well,
With sabbaticals for Ardie Savea and Reiko Ioane.

Those ones are expected turnover so not all that concerning (all getting close to mid 30s) - well aside from RTS. But he should probably go now to get another year in with the Dolphins.

Although, I wonder if BBBR might carry on due to his frequent injury interruptions?

Mo'unga will be a huge loss to the Crusaders and All Blacks.

Not really, we have a Heartfit waiting in the wings. Next Dan Carter I reckon.

RTS should not be amongst those players, he's (like all short term League purchases) a waste of time and money for ABs

That is why he will be off overseas or back to league after the WC.

Yep, a few on here predicated all sorts of wonderful things for RTS on the Rugby Union field.

It’s a bit of an insult to the legacy of the others to post his name alongside those guys.

RTS played well in SR and had a couple of promising games on the EOYT. He exceeded my expectations after missing out on an NPC last year.

I doubt he leaves Auckland again. Maybe he goes back to the Warriors but I would not be surprised to see him extend his Blues/NZR contract. Depends on how 2023 goes

RTS has done just fine. Considering he missed a bit of time with injury and the lack of a development plan for him / or a decent plan. He definitely belongs in SR, wait and see for the next level.

At what point do the ABs have their hand forced to open it up worldwide? They can only lose so much talent before they have to follow suit like the Boks and Wallabies.

Anyone know anything about Chandler Cunningham-South? Back row, played a bit of North Harbour and Canterbury age grade apparently. Signed an academy contract with London Irish a few weeks ago.

He's straight into the England U20s team (at 6) for their 6N game against Wales tomorrow.

Not really but he was in the Canterbury Under 19s last season out of Lincoln University RFC
    https://www.canterburyrugby.co.nz/newsarticle/106283?newsfeedId=1043163
and think he might have originated from Hamilton BHS (a bit of a longshot on this). With a name like he has got it sort of indicates he must have at least one pommie parent/grandparent for him to walk into the RFUs Under 20s.

He's making an impression. Has been getting plenty of Prem and Champions Cup gametime off the bench. Got on the end of a try here to clinch a big win against Saracens a few days ago. Still just 19, so expect to see a fair bit more of him in future

I think Cane is signed till 2025. Barrett and Whitelock don't have long left at the top and RTS isn't regularly in the match day squad. I'm still pretty confident D Mac will sign on with a crack at being number 1 10.
For me it's a shame to lose Mounga, Frizell and Retallick but not significantly worse than other post-WC years.

@TJ Really presents a great opportunity for our youth to step up in the next Super rugby season. Although there was no Under 20s World Cup this year, we had a pretty descent crop coming out in the Oceana tournament as well as Hamilton B.H.S securing the world school tournament and the successful Under 19 tour of South Africa. At least this year's NPC wasn't disrupted by Covert like last year.

Yeah Cane has signed through to 2025, He may struggle to hold down an AB spot by the time 2024 comes around.

Agree, I think the same of Taylor, but great for NZ rugby to have players of their experience around for a bit longer.

@Stargazer Can't recall Charlie Abel so a bit of a dig around found the following. A total of two appearances off the bench for Auckland as an injury replacement to the squad in 2022 against the powerhouses of Manawatu and Southland plus one solitary appearance in Super Rugby for what appears to be the Melbourne Rebels.
