Anyone heard any good talk back today ? It always makes for excellent radio when the ABs lose. My favourite was some old bloke who said Richie McCaw personally let him down and he compared his captaincy of the Waimate under 21s or whatever to playing in front of 60,000 hostile Afrikaaners and what he would have done much better than Richie did.

If you're a top golfer who just made a double-bogey, you need to be able to stand on the tee and expect to nail your drive.
If you're Federer and just served a couple of double faults to lose a game - you're not wanting to be worrying about another one when you start your next game.
If Beauden is our designated kicker for the game - I want him to be striding forward wanting to take the kick and expecting to get it. Unless maybe he's missed 5/5 and he thinks maybe this isn't my night.
I think if all his missed kicks were out wide I'd feel the same way, but on a night when he's missing kicks in close I'd want him to go to DMac and say, here you kick the last one because I'm 50/50 at best at getting this.

A big win if the All Blacks maintain some semblance of defensive alignment, don't give up two intercepts and kick the majority of their shots at goal.
Still, we need to account for teams that have "amazing line-speed" in defence. That's what those cross field kicks against a narrow defensive pattern are supposed to achieve.
One only needs to look at the stats to see this should have been a thumping of epic proportions.

@mn5 majority of what I heard was very reasonable...I think the nutters call when it's dark.
Mexted reckons it was the best game ever.
Interesting thing for me is that unusually we dominated stats, scored more tries and lost...be interesting to see if SA can back it up, or it was an anomaly as the stats would suggest.

Seems to be the usual doom and gloom (mostly from the media).
Pretty sure we went through this after a loss in Hong Kong back in 2010..everything seemed to work out fine the following year.. -

According to these guys, Beauden was our most successful AB kicker in Super rugby this year.

To be fair most of the social network in NZ has been quite complimentary to the Springboks..
Just the odd few blaming B.B and super rugby time nature of the way we were trying to play the game..
Personally I thought we were very loose and too keen use ball off the top of the lineout which suited the rush defence the Boks were using.
Would like to have seen us drive a lot more from lineouts which we used to good effect close to the line.
Finally on Beauden Barrett,he’s quite the talent,but needs to take responsibility of drop kick situations and needs to work bloody harder on his goalkicking moving forward.Watched the last 10 minutes of the Dragons v Souths NRL elimination game last night,Adam Reynolds took responsibility drop kicking 3 goals in the last 7 minutes..took control of the situation and that’s all I ask from BB

Look, people are emotional after a loss. We need a scapegoat. We need to have a go at someone. Can you please stop bringing facts and logic to this thread.

Good game. Enjoyed it. Pity about the loss, but can't win them all aye?
Our game got beaten by a team that kept making their tackles, and took their opportunities. Well done to SA, a deserved and great win.

A few things learnt
1 BBBR is definetly missed
2 some of the younger players still have a bit of learning to do in high pressure games (Goodhue the exception)
3 high risk fast paced rugby is great but it is exactly that and some times the ball just wont bounce your way (literally) and sometimes the game may need to be slowed down
4 Beaden Barrett will miss a few kicks but we don't lose too many tests when he is on the park
5 Ben Smith is playing his best rugby, shame he seemed to be under utilised in the second half -

Those stats don't take into account the difficulty of the kicks. What they could suggest though is that Jordie was taking the harder kicks given BB's total attempted was around 2/3rds that of Dmac or Mounga with Jordie making up the difference. From memory they shared the kicking a fair bit with JB doing exactly that.
What the stats clearly show is that Lima had a bad year kicking.

@pukunui Yeah - but, the conversion stats especially aren't a bad guide.
What they do indicate is that usually Beauden would sink those easy ones he missed last night.
Apropos to very little - I can remember years ago seeing a snooker documentary where they got some of the top players to take something like a thousand identical and pretty easy shots. Steve Davis - who was the best player in the world at the time did significantly better than the next best guys. Would be interesting to see the same thing in a goal kicking contest.

No one has mentioned how well ABs monstored Boks in maul on second half. Ardie's try came from more than twenty metres out.
Can't help feeling the BB thing is mental. Can remember thinking when we really needed conversion from sideline that he would slot it, and sure enough he did, bisecting the posts. That level of focus and I can't see how he'd have missed both the posters.

He's had a weird thing of kicking sideline conversions, but duffing easy ones in front of the posts. Maybe too relaxed?
