having guys like Ta'avao and Tu'unukuafi in our squad could be looked at in 2 ways:

1 - Our much vaunted depth isnt what it is thought of given ABs call in 2 guys who had no contracts at end of last year
2 - Meh, just grab those 2 fellas, they look like props, she'll be right, this is NZ, everyone can play for the ABs.

or 3 - Our depth goes so far, even these guys didn't have contracts at the end of last year. 😉

I wouldn't be surprised if they start Perry and bring big Karl off the bench.
Have to throw the locals a bone.

    ugh

@rapido I just think that Hansen and co might believe that Tu'inukuafe is the better impact sub of the two.

is "mastery of "transition" opportunities" just another way of saying "journey"?

So a guy reputedly responsible for our attacking play is taking on the English defensive role?

@taniwharugby I can see why Harris no longer writes for The Australian. Now if they could just get rid of Wayne Smith.

Anyway, we all know Mitchell pinched his tactics from the 03 Blues (but forgot the part about forward dominance).

@98blueandgold be surprised if we see Crotty again this series, if at all this season.

Am pretty sure I heard Shag say that Crotty will be available for selection next weekend. Would rather see him take the rest of the year off though but they do have the best medical advice available I suppose.

@akan004 yeah I know, same applies to Cane, and I expect with the head knocks it is largely bad luck (poor technique the odd time) so if they are right then they are right...although they are still learning when it comes to the effects of concussion arent they.

Yeah he pinched the counter attack off the Blues and used their back 3 of Mils , Joe and Howlett , they were doing it through the 03 super rugby season , where ironically Henry was an assistant , Mitchell wasnt doing it the year before ,

    Chicken egg situation there

Sure, but there is the possibility of having big trouble at scrum time if Perry has to face Juan Figallo who was outstanding vs Mtwawarira in the last test.

Hahaha, you got there before me, just saw it now ... although shouldn't it (really) be that they spelled Henry wrong.

    Couple of observations:

Assuming they rest Crotty and Cane (which I hope they do)..

    • Who is back up for Savea? That might argue for Frizzell to cover 6 and 7.

    • If Mo'unga gets a start it wouldn't make sense to have Laumape starting -- better ALB. Goodhue to get rest in second and ALB to 13.

Don't think Frizell would have ever played 7. Ta$man have used him at lock and 6.

Not sure if Luke Whitelock has played 7, but he'd be a better candidate I think - a bit more mobile.

That they haven't pulled another openside into the squad probably points that Cane is going to be good to go.

This is very good news actually that NZ are forced to get some starts in Tuinukiafe, and the injury to Moody is as minor as a thumb fracture.

I say this believing, as far as I know, that Moody is the best current LHP in test rugby.

KT needs some serious (starting) minutes before RWC.

    Stay on topic.

    Now about that whitebaiting.

But Mils was playing centre at the Blues and Rok was rotated on the wing with Gear. Howlett played fullback for most of that Blues season. And lets not forget the most damaging player on that Blues back 3 that year did not make the ABs.....

So Mitchell did vary it quite a bit.

Tbh I think they should move on from Crotty. The guy seems to barely ever complete a whole game, let alone a season. Yes, he's great when fit, but he just breaks the entire farking time.

Yeah - it seems he's slipped ahead of Tim Perry in the pecking order, so I don't see why he wouldn't start.

Hopefully Kane Hames will be back in the mix next year and we'll have four looseheads with test experience.

Getting Nepo Laulala back on the tighthead side should give us a good hand of propping options with Karl and Ofa apparently ambidextrous (or should that be ambicaputrous)?
