@mariner4life I know right, all these shit highlanders selected for the ABs from a side that was obviously garbage in super rugby due to the shit players. How'd the Chiefs go again?

finished ahead of the Highlanders. With an obviously inferior group of individuals. Pretty good effort. Imagine how we would have gone if we had 4 All Black loose forwards instead of just 1?

Why are you making me do work! That's the opposite of why I go on the Fern. 😡

I'd have thought that 38f would cover it? The 9 is well away from the scrum before the 8 picks up.

nah i reckon he is all good. You can't penalise him for running with his back to the opposition. Looks like a standard 8-9 except the #8 ran. woo hoo.

Yep. He's left before the ball is picked up by the 8.

Obviously the B grade ref in charge of that game agrees with you though .... 😉

I think it looks like the 8 has picked it up at the same time as the half darts - the 8 just doesn't move.

Edit: I'm sure it's much harder to judge in real time.

The half is darting at 0.4 and the ball is still on the ground, at 0.5 the Tunisian blindside is starting to detach following the 9. The ball is still touching the ground - but may be in the 8's hands.

Well that was a nice diversion, best go do some work work now.

Edit: agree on the real time judging.

To me the acid is on Beauden Barrett,he’s the player that’s got both Mckenzie and Mo’unga breathing down his neck,he’s on notice as far as I am concerned.
As for Goodhue I have no issues, especially when you hear the endorsements coming from many of the players that front up along side him.
I have no doubts that ABL and Goodhue will be a long term midfield combo just as they were in the 2015 AB under 20s.

    Goodhue was on the wing.
Midfield was Faiane and ALB. Faiane was rated #1 secondfive all throughout age grade rugby. He's failed to deliver since then. Seems to be the forgotten midfielder who people expected big things from.

Laumape is still young as well.

Back to the actual game - Tui vs Squire should be interesting - Wallabies have really struggled for 6s in recent years but Tui has been promising. Squire has had his moments but is still proving himself.

I'm surprised anyone was caught out by it, the whole thing happens so slowly. The cover defence look like they're running in treacle.

Asked about the different learning capabilities of his different players, Hansen got very artistic in his reply.

"Every player has to find their own wheel that spins for them," he began before catching himself out.

"That sounds a bit John Mitchell-y that comment - sorry about that."

    🙂

The Karl Tu'inukuafe legend continues to grow in the All Blacks, with the North Harbour strongman switching to the backup tighthead role in a late injury reshuffle for Bledisloe I at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night.

Reserve tighthead prop Ofa Tuungafasi was ruled out of the Rugby Championship opener on Thursday with a rib cartilage injury that will see him return to Auckland ahead of the match.

Crusaders prop Tim Perry, a loosehead specialist, comes on to the bench, and Wellington's Jeff Toomaga-Allen, who plays the tighthead side, is en route to Sydney to join the squad as cover,.

@nepia I think it's debatable - seems the infringement would be the scrum half making the opposition think the ball is out of the scrum when it's not. However, if the number 8 picks it up at the same time then I guess there's no infringement.

Who's the laws nerd around here? A ref? Maybe they can offer some insight?

    Its been illegal since 1992.

Its probably one that can be removed now though, as refs now coach throughout the match, they could politely tell the defenders get back onside. No 1976 Whangarei repeat.

@rapido Problem is JTA will only be there this arvo, I guess, short turn around

So, really it's coming down to that they should have selected better.

2 THPs. 2 LHPs, plus Ofa T covering both sides should have been the original 5.

So JTA should have been there all week, Perry should be the one on the plane.

    Lesson learnt, I hope.

True, but easier this way to appease the cantabs.

I’m genuinely surprised it’s not another one on the plane. Surely the 5th best prop at crusaders is better than anywhere else?

If Owen Franks is injured early in the game, it'd be a good chance for the Wallabies to beat the ABs.
