I heard last week that he was out for the season. Not sure if that extends to the NPC season, but definitely done for the Super season.

@Dice So same as last year. Shame, he's missing a lot of rugby in a crucial part of his rugby career.

Here's the official Scarlets' media release about the Sam Lousi signing: https://www.scarlets.wales/en/team-news/articles/sam-s-the-man-as-hurricanes-forward-signs-for-scarlets/

So the Canes will be looking for yet another tall lock, as if finding one wasn't difficult enough.

@Stargazer Don't worry, Plumtree's 2.05m, 130kg lock will turn up at some point.

@Paekakboyz Haha I don't think Mathematics was Plumtree's strong point.

After the bye, the Hurricanes travel to Tokyo to play the Sunwolves.

They are hopeful loose forward Gareth Evans and utility back James Marshall will be joining them on the plane after working their way through their respective injury rehabilitations.

Captain Dane Coles is also a chance to make the trip, although the team could take an ultra cautious approach and leave him at home to rest his calf injury, given his history with injuries.

Outside back Nehe Milner-Skudder is due back in the weeks after that, while prop Toby Smith should also be back at some stage as the Hurricanes build through the second half of their season.

Players who are consistently overlooked and don't get game time, also get overlooked in the injury updates.
I haven't seen any news about the nature of Jonah Lowe's injury and how bad it is. Same with Cridge. It would be nice to know whether Lowe will be able to play NPC this year (and hasn't been ruled out for the entire season like Falcon). 😕

So this is a fall from grace for TJ Va'a. Can't even make the Wainui prems team.

@Canes4life I think I saw an instagram post (forgot who posted it) in which TJ Va'a was congratulated on his return from injury. I think it was his first game in 9 months or so. That could be an explanation why they started him in the Prem Reserves. Where he plays the next few weeks will be a better indication of where he sits.

@Stargazer oh right got yah. It would be good to have more of an update on some of these players, something the Canes are poor at doing.

Speaking of Premier Reserve yesterday I watched a 2019 NZ Under 20s player starting for his club in that grade and he also had the well perfromed Fa'atonu Fili directing things from first five after half time. Needless to say but it did make things a trifle difficult for their opponents.

@Higgins who was the under 20 player? Was it one of the Thompson brothers?

@Canes4life The Thompson brothers aren't in NZU20s yet. Too young, probably. Tyrone started for MSP Prems, yesterday. Leo wasn't in the Prems line-up, so he may have played for the Prem Reserves. @Higgins, do you know more?

Neither of the Thompsons played Prem Reserve yeaterday but Naitoa Ah Khoi certainly did. Incidentally former Warrior Charlie Gubb started as blindside for MSP.

@Canes4life Marvan Karawana also started for the Wainuiomata Prem Reserves, something that Nepia (and a few others) will appreciate.

It will be interesting to see if all our All Blacks are rested for the Sunwolves trip. I can imagine guys like Ardie, Beaudy, Jordie, TJ, Fifita and Laumape will be left home and guys like Rayasi, Umaga Jensen etc will get the chance to finally make a statement and Evans/Marshall/Coles will provide the leadership needed. Whether they all get rested at once will be something the coaches discuss this week.

    @Canes4life

Sunwolves at home can be a bit dangerous. They’re not as easy to beat as before.

Plus, right now we get 22 degree (soon it’ll nearby be 30 degree days) followed by freezing cold rainy ones (like today, it’s 8 degrees right now). Some ridiculously hot day could lead to an (old) Blues like showing.

I’d take a few more experienced guys.

I think there will be great competition to be included in the big away trips as the players surely jealously guard the accumulation of the air points at stake.
