Hurricanes 2019 Discussion

@Bones It's not unorthodox if 12 is his favoured position. J Barrett played age grade and provincial for Canterbury at 12 and showed his class - all I'm asking is that he gets a crack there for the Canes as I think it will be better for the team moving forward. Simple.

@Crucial His mistake was passing it to a Blues player.
I think you'll find he passed it to the ground (in a cool calm manner of course)

Sure, makes sense. Bit like being conservative and playing Cullen at centre.

@Crucial If he was playing 12 this would never have eventuated.
So the plan is to hide him at 12 so he has less time to make dumb decisions and BB can skip pass him straight to Goodhue?
I can see the logic in that. He can use his calm demeanour to run dummy lines. -
@Bones playing the best Fullback in the world at centre in a World Cup is stupidity, I agree.
Playing an age grade 12 at 12 in Super Rugby doesn't make sense to you - you young man are a funny fella. Your statement is the only thing not making sense.

I don't think you know the meaning of conservative.
-
@Canes4life joking aside, a player's age grade position is not always their best when they go up levels.
Different levels of game require different play. Kahui is a similar example. He was even a very classy centre at Super level yet the ABs were reluctant to use him there saying he was more suited in tests on the wing.
As for JB wanting to play 12 at Super level, he should have picked a better employer. Chiefs would run a JB/ALB combo. Highlanders would gladly accommodate him there as well -
@Bones Moving J Barrett to 12 is automatically more conservative than having Laumape there. Not rocket science. J Barrett plays a safer game (apart from that donkey pass against the Safas) compared to Laumape's destructive style and i'm sure he could create a special combo with his bro. If the Canes go with Laumape then so be it but i'd like to see JB in there at some point.

@Bones - confirmed correct.
-
@Crucial If it comes down to someone having to give up their jersey and move to another Super franchise then for me I would have to wave goodbye to Laumape. J Barrett is too important to this franchise as a play-maker, especially post Beaudy. We can't afford to lose him.

@Bones Conservative to me is someone that is discreet or cautious in their approach. If you think playing Laumape at 12 is more cautious than playing J Barrett there, so be it.
It's odd, but yes I find the most conservative approach would be playing the proven 12 at 12, rather than the 15 at 12. Zany idea I know.

I agree. I fail to see the logic in @Canes4life s argument here.
You have a choice between playing an AB 12 at 12 or an AB 15/14 at 12.
The punter might opt for the latter on potential while the conservative route is to go with the guy your peers selected for even higher honours than you can offer. Simple really. -
@Bones I see him as a 12 already so that's probably where the confusion lies. Yes it isn't conservative if you are moving a 15 to 12 when there is already an established 12 there, where I'm coming from is that I think J Barrett has enough experience to warrant the tag of being a current 12 who is temporarily keeping the 15 jersey warm for someone else before he hopefully switches back to his more natural position as an inside centre.
