@booboo You are supporting teams like that now. Chiefs,Highlanders are chock full of players who don't belong to their region,Crusaders,Hurricanes and Blues also have players not part of their regions same thing but on a different scale

To a degree which is a reason why there's not the same passion for Super Rugby.

I don't want that in international representative rugby. It needs to be controlled far more.

@booboo I have very little connection to any Super side, but support Northland regardless.

In an ideal world they'd be 100% local players, but that has never been the case, in recent years aside from Super players, all players picked for Northland have to play club rugby here, which I think is as good as we can expect.

However, when it comes to the ABs I am less keen when we play some players (frizzel, Sivi, Tamanivalu et al) because it adds fuel to the poaching fire.

There's no comparison between franchise rugby and international rugby - they are two completely different things and it's stupid to compare them. Why should we adopt the same rules for international rugby as we do franchise rugby?

@cgrant Franks nearing the End of his career.

Owen's showing a few battle scars this season, but despite that he's been around forever he's only 30. If he turned out to have Wyatt Crockett or Tony Woodcock-like durability, there's a prospect that he could play at four World Cups. Sam Whitelock's only 29 and is the other of the current crop who could possibly make that. Both still have live tickets to four winners medals - and that's all I've got to say about that. 🙂

Lomax has just turned 22 so heaps of room for development. He's an unusual story, born in Oz, grew up in NZ playing league I believe, and switched to rugby when his family shifted back to Oz. I wouldn't really regard him as a poach, but Alaalatoa is pretty Australian.

However, the rules are set and everyone is using them!

@nepia No it is more stupid not too. As its still played in 5 countries in determines who plays for what, country International Rugby is a mess. England,France,Scotland,Walres,Ireland,Australia,Japan to name a few riddled with players from other countries in fact if they weren't they would not be able to compete,New Zealand has players not born in New Zealand since almost day 1 of the Allblacks, its a fact of life and complaining about it will do. no good its called professional and Rugby is being dragged kicking and screaming into it is not going to change.
Everyone playing Rugby has the right to earn the best money they can its a short lifespan at the top.

Damn, that is a stupid reason for poaching players. We may as well dispense with internationals if that is the case. (TBH, I'm not 100% certain you're just not trolling here because I can't fathom a NZer thinking the above is fine).

Also, you're conflating acceptable non NZ born players with blatant professional poaches and they're not the same.

Also, calling something professional rugby does not make blatant poaching any better or some sort of fait accompli - professional rugby in NZ and elsewhere can exist without blatant poaches. Furthermore, Japan having blatant poaches and NZ having them are bloody different things. We don't need them. NZ rugby is going to go fine without Alaalatoa, Taminavalu and Frizell.

@nepia that’s an insult born and breed Kiwi who played rugby since I was 5 then coached at junior rep and senior club level
Frizell is already in the ABs and is a Hansen pet and is not going anywhere
It’s the times Mate sit and watch as more players are selected that are not born in their countries you can sit and moan about it but it’s going to carry on I am being realistic didn’t say I love it hated John Gallagher being selected he was a dead set fukin Pom

So you're proposing international representative rugby be scrapped and we just have club rugby?

Just because something is reality doesn't make it any more acceptable.

Countries exploit the current rules. Doesn't mean eligibility shouldn't be tightened.

Much like being a New Zealander involved in rugby doesn't make you any less wrong.

    @booboo
None of my posts propose scrapping International Rugby for club Rugby that’s a knee jerk reaction from someone who can’t persuade someone from agreeing with their own beliefs.
International Rugby Rules are and always have been controlled by England and their minions in the NH.
They are not going to tighten anything other than their own bank accounts. You need to get off your morale high horse and understand you have no say it what happens in International Rugby .So enjoy it for what it is or don’t watch it.

@Chris I do thoroughly enjoy it and enjoy it as representative. And will continue to do so until such time as the pinnacle of the sport becomes the equivalent of Real Madrid v Manchester City.

What you seem to be proposing, or at least excusing, is to allow countries with the biggest chequebook to assemble the most talent.

That is wrong whether I can influence the eligibility criteria or not.

The current eligibility criteria grew out of a world that no longer exists and should be changed, or more specifically tightened. Railing against the wind? (is that the correct metaphor? ... googling tells me it is actually an idiom ... and perhaps doesn't quite fit... but I digress). Maybe. Doesn't mean I shouldn't express an opinion on an internet forum, even if I can't change your opinion. (Where is the Alannis emoji?)

@booboo Of Course you should express your opinion as will I you miss my point I am not proposing anything just commenting on what I see the situation being and I can't see a change Personally I don't support it but understand it.
